UCL: intercollegiate hall or student house?

I'm firming UCL for September 2014 entry, and I really don't know whether to go for intercollegiate (probably Connaught or college) or whether I should go for UCL self-catered accommodation.

I think the intercollegiate halls are nicer (and it's good that Connaught has it's own bar) and I definitely want a common room (which I know not all the ucl residences have) but I'm worried I'll be isolated from my Uni and won't be included in freshers etc.

Don't suppose there are any current students, or prospective students who could give me some insight?
Thank you!

Intercollegiate halls are nicer and often closer (more expensive), you can also re-apply for second year aswell

UCL halls are more sociable, ppl tends to make close friends in halls to live together for 2nd and 3rd year

Food gets awful after the first term (as it tends to get repetitive), but enjoy your first year with minimum hassle

I suggest apply for UCL hall, put proximity as your priority, and put down a little note saying you want Ramsay hall

hope this helps
