Textile Degree decisions. Please Help!

Hello,
I am currently struggling with my decisions about universities. Last year completed a foundation diploma in art and design, I loved it and achieved a distinction, this year I started a foundation degree in textiles at the same place because it was recommended by my tutors and I absolutely hate it. We have one tutor who doesn't seem to care what we do at all and most of the time has no idea what we are doing, they sit in their office all day and leave us to get on with it. In tutorials (which I have had once this year) she just tells you whether you have enough to pass not how to improve. I would prefer to work hard with support to produce something good than just pass.
I understand that degrees are more self directed but is it a case that you have your own ideas and plan your own time but they tutor engages with your work and gives advice in most places or are you left to flounder as I am?
I would like to start again somewhere better but if I did I would be 21 in my first year, is this an unusual age to start or would I have company.
I realise this is rather general but I would love some opinions from anyone studying textiles at a university, the ones I have considered so far are Dundee, Derby, Loughborough, Bournemouth and Manchester Met. Does anyone have any other courses to recommend.

Thank you very much

Just want to chip in here by saying being a bit older doesn't matter at uni, chances are nobody will even ask because it's not something people think about. It's not unusual either, there's quite a few people in their mid to late 20s and even older on my course and nobody bats an eyelid.

Sounds like you have a couple bad tutors. You could think about transferring to a different foundation degree if you're not especially engaging with the course material or perhaps move to a different uni (I think if you can transfer credits) but first and foremost speak to whoever is your academic advisor/main tutor and voice your concerns. You can always ask the tutors in class for more in depth advice/suggestions to improve after you're told whether you've done enough to pass or not.

I'm relieved to hear that if I did move I wouldn't be the only one not 18. I love textiles so I wouldn't want to change that but one of my problems is that I only have one tutor, I am going next week to tell her its not really working out for me and see what happens, I'm also going to talk to my old tutors at the same college to see what they say. I have asked several times for more advice but have not received it but am glad to hear that this isn't considered normal. Thank you very much for your help
