Im i a bit confused...wonder if anyone can help. Would the Cliffe proposal be welcomed by the Thames Gateway regeneration project or not? Will it help to stimulate growth in the region or merely impede and undermine the acheivement of the overall aims of the Thames gateway development????

I just saw the quote from the Thames Gateway regional development advisor in figure 7 which suggests that the new airport would boost regeneration and attract inward investment yet im sure that when i was looking on the Thames Gateway website that it suggested that they were against the proposal.

Can anyone help?

There is no right or wrong answer.....is is a decision making paper, where YOU decide the best site etc. As long as you back up and put your ideas across to the examiner you will not go far wrong. I personally feel FROM THE RESOURCES PROVIDED that Medway would be the best location for my own reasons from waht I have looked at so far.

Remember,do not get tangled up in the thinking that you HAVE to get the right answer and that there is only one. There is not....you could even say that both proposals should not go ahead, and new thinking should take place.

I think you get what I am saying, No?
Is the Marinairport offshore proposal an alternative to Cliffe Aifport or an addition after the Cliffe airport is built?

If it is an alternative will they expect us to choose which would be the best option, Cliffe airport or Marinairport

They will probably get you to weight up the advantages, disadvantages, social, economic and environmental impacts of each site, on a local, regional and national scale (even internationally). Dont worry about it!

I always worry before an exam, and as soo as I start writing I do fine! Wonder what all the fuss was about!

I have just reading, annotating a phootcopy of the resource booklet. Going to now write up wha I said above. At the end of the day, you are given the resource bookletin advance so you know what to expect and are already prepared for the exam instead of spending hours reading it in the exam!

Relax, deep bretah, stay kool!

they are alternatives .. and yea best way to compare is to draw a table with social economic and enviormental costs/benefits for the 2. Although you may struggle finding enviromental positives,
Somebody explain to me hat Fig 14a and fig 14b show please ... i know you have to try and use every fig and i have no idea what that shows :s-smilie:
An enivrionmental positive is that the Urban environment will improve, e.g regneration. But the ecological environment will be most affected.

My teacher reckons that we will get a question asking us to describe the current state of the cliife area using the OS map in terms of;
Relief (Topagraphy)
Drainage
Communicatins (eg roads, motorways, railways)
Vegetation
Settlement
Industry
Coastal Processes
Current Environmental Concerns

Then further into the examu may be expected to state how the above would change as a result if the Cliffe airport or Marinairport is built, positive or negative changes

Does anyone know what we use the photographic booklet for with the synoptic assesment??? what kind of things do we write about the photos? how will they help in our answers???
Reply 229
I think that it is just a visual aid for us to make it more easier when looking at the area in conext
Some of the photos eg. the one with the burnt out car, have 6 fig grid references so you can get a really good idea of what an area on the map looks like on the ground. You can also determine where the photo that looks into the village was taken, using the church and direction of road as a ref. Thats the only use I can think of for the pics at the mo  .

Is anyone else planing to take a pair of scissors and glue into the exam to truly lift the sources into your answers? My geog teacher is forever emphasing the importance of annotated diagrams so I figure that sein as how my arty skills are really lacking I should just use the pics

Brendan.

Ps. Geoger, cheers for the info, its given me a lot of last min ideas to think about - shame I now have a headache :frown:
Hey misbah, have u got any info about the techniques yet???
thanks
Sounds stupid...but, is this exam in the morning or the afternoon?
in the morning for me
Its a morning exam which means I have to actually get up early  but only four more exams after this geog one (gen studs, hist and physics) then I can get drunk and forget all this stuff.

Looking at the OS map. The central - eastern area that holds the proposed site for the airport is up to 40m above sea level. Is it the western/northern end of the site that is at risk from flooding from the Cliffe marshes rather than the area protected from sea walls off the Isle of Grain??
does ne1 have any examples of cost benefit or other matrixes i really dont know how to do these?!

also does ne1 have a breakdown of the issues inot local, regional and national any help would be immensely appreciated, my email is [email protected]

pls pls help me xxx

Please please please can someone explane to me how we are meant to do the decision making diagram things like a matrix. How are we meant to include them if the question is about how you can reduce conflict for example. Do you just put a conflict matrix in an say how you would reduce this conflict ect.

Has anyone else been advicsed to learn different case studies to exemplify things? If so which one did you learn.
some useful ideas on following website - www.sln.org.uk/geography,

any help with matrices cost benefit local national regional issues would be appreciated!!!!!
Yeh we were told to have a case study also.

Ones which come to mind are the Japan airport (the one which is built ot to sea) and birmingham airport because this was a phased development.

We were also told to look at the resources and make up our own mind on how we can make a sustainable airport ourselves
