Apparently it stop s the coffee from being scolded/burned, which makes it bitter. That's why the ideal temperature for a coffee is actually about 87.5*C with the water.
Milk first! You wouldn't put the squash in before the water! The thing of the smallest ratio must go in first to allow it to mix properly upon pouring in the second substance
I think this thread has destroyed all of my self-esteem because of all the backlash towards adding milk then water. Funnily enough, I did accidently do it the 'right' way this week but then it tasted like crap.

I'm glad I wouldn't be alone on this. I have to wonder, why do people think there is a 'right' way to do it? Surely, there is a more favoured version for everybody and it isn't a 'right for everyone' approach like some people are acting about this?
I don't have sugar in my tea, occasionally I'll have a biscuit or two with it I have my tea quite strong as well, leave it in the mug for about five minutes before doing anything.
