Actually you might be regardless!
As an American who has lived half his adult life outside the US, I feel deeply embarrassed at such naked, ignorant jingoism. American children are brought up being told America is the best place to live and even that it has the best society that ever existed, that we are somehow unique like that "city on the hill" that one of our early Puritans proclaimed. It is ridiculous. In contrast, I think European children are more aware of their history and the limitations of their societies, all with a sense of what it means to endure and re-make oneself.
