Is it ok to mix different brands of fuel? Eg Shell and Sainburys

is it ok to do it occasionally? regularly?
Ive never heard of it doing any harm.

As long as it's all the same octane number which in the UK it's universal it's fine. Petrol is petrol, all goes through the fuel filter anyway, any additives of different brands are in such low quantities they're negligible
unequivocally, the refinery process means that different carbon chain hydrocarbons are separated. So if you choose unleaded from sainsburys and then unleaded from shell, then the hydrocarbons are of the the same carbon chain range and for that reason the engine can use the fuel as a similar means of combustion, without effecting the combustion process overall. If one chooses different carbon chain fuel and mixes them, then the combustion process is far more complicated and dangerous causing pressures in the car engine -ultimately leading to systematic failure.

So what you're saying is don't mix because they have different carbon chains?

Yeah I was more thinking about additives causing a bad reaction like coke and mentos

As long as you use the same fuel type, it will be fine whatever garage you get it from.

How do you think people who drive long distances cope, otherwise?
You don't think all Sainsburys petrol comes from a different type of dinosaur to BP petrol do you?

The only difference in the fuel is the additives, and they're negligible. You're fine to mix.

Yes. You can even mix coolants and engine oild from different manufacturers, as long as they meet the same specifications.
As long as you don’t put diesel in a petrol car and vice versa you’ll be fine.
