How important actually are AS-levels when applying for University?

At my school’s sixth form I don’t really have much interest in any of the AS options so I was considering taking AS Financial Studies. However I’ve heard about A-Level Financial Studies being part of the ‘blacklist’ so I was wondering if this would be the same case if I took it for AS.

An AS in Financial Studies is unlikely to have any affect on your university application, positive or negative. Most top universities would ignore the result. Failing it on the back of modest gcse grades might ring alarm bells. Passing with a good grade might give the extra UCAS points needed if you apply to universities that make points based offers.
