Advice on choosing a major (A+F or Maths, Statistics and Business)

I‘m a Year 12 student studying Maths, Economics, Physics and Further Maths. My predicted grades are A*A*AA* respectively.

I hope to study AF at LSE, but the competition is too fierce (17:1). Also, when I was doing my IPQ (Independent Project Qualification) I found out that maths is very important in corporate finance. So I considered whether I should go for Maths, Statistics and Business, which has a ratio of 12:1.

If you could tell me about your experience in AF or MSB, that would be great.

You have 5 UCAS choices. You need to look beyond just LSE.

Look at the entry requirements for the Uni subjects you are interested on a range of different Uni websites - both A levels and GCSE requirements. Some examples :
Manchester https://www.manchester.ac.uk/study/undergraduate/courses/2024/
Bath https://www.bath.ac.uk/courses/undergraduate-2024/business-and-management/
Newcastle - https://www.ncl.ac.uk/undergraduate/subjects/business/
Sussex https://www.sussex.ac.uk/study/undergraduate/

Go to University Open Days and listen to the subject presentations, find out what these degrees are actually about and how each Uni is different.

Thanks a lot for your advice!

I've looked through the school's official websites. I think my GCSEs were fine (999998766). I would consider applying to LSE, KCL, Manchester, Warwick and Durham if applying to AF. I'm not sure if that's a good option. I may not be able to go to all the open days, but I will try.

Just ensure that your 5 UCAS choices cover a range of entry requirements - the usual advice is :

1 or 2 choices just above your predicted grades - 1 grade and not in a vital subject - risky but its usually worth 1 choice like this.

2 or 3 at your predicted grades - you are most likely to get offers for these choices, but its still not guaranteed.

1 choice well below your predicted grades but a course/Uni that you still actually want to go to. This is your potential Insurance choice.
