Is it legal for student to stay with a teacher?

I’m watching ankley bridge from channel 4 and is it actually legal for a student to stay with a teacher?
For those that don’t watch it, Corey, one of the students got kicked out of his home and was staying at school without consent. So the head teacher found out and offered to let him stay with her, but she went into labour and the replacement head took over and let him stay with her instead.
Would this actually be legal?
It is legal in the sense that the teacher is acting in loco parentis (as a substitute parent) - it can happen when exam clashes are on for example and a student will spend the night at a teacher's house so they are properly supervised and can have no contact with anyone who may have already sat the exam. If a student was found in that situation in a school in the UK, however, and were under 18, in practise, Social Services would usually be informed and would take over the care.

Yes it is legal if agreed by the school body and social services
