When you see & hear the hatred and toxic negativity of groups like the Westboro Baptist Church what is your instinctive reaction?
To sigh, shake your head, feel nauseated, pray that they develop a more positive approach to practising christianity or something else.

I learnt about them a super long time ago, in fact when I wasn’t a Christian !! And thought they were proper nut heads that had been brainwashed (partially true), I guess they are extremists, like any religion, there are extremists, and although I don’t like the way they teach and a lot of what they teach, I still have no judgement on them. I see them as equal to myself, no less and no more, so really, I have no response other than I guess disappointment. They make us all look kind of bad ! Many people when they hear “Christian” actually think of the Westbro Baptist Church, and not the fact we believe in loving one another above all else!
I haven't read the bible, but the story of Cain and Abel surely shows that God is not benevolent, so why put your faith in him?
I respect the whole Christianity thing btw it takes a lot of dedication to accept a religion into your life.

But God gave us free will. The power for us to do as we please.
Christianity is not a religion, it is a lifestyle. We have to learn his teachings and apply it to our daily lives.
God is so loving because he got his Son to sacrifice his life for our sins. No human or Idols can do such.

Heya 😁 Cain was punished, as were many other people in bible before Jesus came to earth, however this has changed with Jesus’ death. I didn’t write this but it sums it up much better than I can! -

‘The eternal punishment for sin is no longer upon those who accept Christ as Lord and Savior. God no longer punishes us for our sin because Jesus took that punishment. But sometimes, the Bible says, bad things that happen to us are a result of God’s discipline. They are not a retribution or punishment for sin; rather, they are a correction, as a parent would correct a child. They are not intended to break down, but rather to increase holiness in the believer.’

So when two brothers offer the same sacrifice and one is favoured more than the other, that shows benevolence? Free will means nothing if God can favour ones actions over another's no? Why want to live freely when God, the most almighty and loving being (I don't know what God counts as, so I will just say being) rejects your actions?
Omdssss hiiiiiiiiiiii🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Do you believe in the existence of hell?

We believe freedom is found within God, and trust me this has been hard to grasp onto, because to humans rebellion is often freedom! (For me at least it was)... freedom to me looked like drinking as much as I wanted, having sex as much as I wanted, swearing as much as I wanted, taking drugs as I wanted, but I now see that this was the deceit of the devil, that’s what the devil does, makes evil look good, and good look evil:frown: I only found freedom when I found God

Elly, you are doing great. I am also a believer too. God sacrificed the best person in the world who never committed sin to take away our sins so we can go to heaven. If that isn't love, then I don't know what is.

AMEN!!! So beautifully said ! xox

I’m an atheist and struggle to comprehend religious people’s thought process. One question I would like to ask you is: don’t you find it detrimental to your faith that if you were born in Ancient Greece you would believe in Zeus and Hades, in India you’d probably be a Hindu and in the UAE you would be Muslim?, therefore it’s coincidental that you are a Christian and it is due to your socialisation or indoctrination from your society that you hold ‘your’ beliefs. Also, all these faiths can’t be correct. (Hope it doesn’t sound like I’m mocking you as it is not my intention) 👍

Heya! Thanks for your question, and trust me I think about this a lot too! You’re absolutely correct, many many people are I guess ‘born into’ their religion, many of my friends were, many have swayed their own direction, many have stayed put, however I can only speak for myself here. I was born into a pagan family (crazy right), my mum and my dad not so much, they were atheist, but my aunt and my grandma (the women who I spent the most time with) were pagans, and into extremely dark witchcraft. I was pulled into that, and grew to love it at such a young age. When I was 9, my dad all of a sudden became a Christian, and tried to force his views onto me, and it just made me rebel. So I was being pulled back and forth between paganism, Christianity and atheists (also a hint of Buddhism) basically all of my childhood. It was only when I moved out and could actually breathe and think for myself that I found God, and now understand why my dad was so desperate to save me!! I guess what I’m trying to say is, as someone who was born into a complete religion whirlpool, I don’t find it at all detrimental to my faith, as it was completely my choice:smile: in fact I never even told my dad I was a Christian (till his friend caught me at a church where I live!), because as you said, I don’t want that to sway me in any way

Do you believe in the existence of hell?

That is the reason why Jesus is sent to Earth. It is to spread the good news. Hell is real. God wants us to sacrifice, know of him and go to heaven and meet him 'cause we all have a limited time being on this Earth but a lifetime in heaven/hell...and if it is corona to take us all out, then doomsday is pretty soon.

But how can an all-loving and all-caring God let people to be sent to hell?

I would say something along the lines of "I've put my faith on you alone to save me and not my good deeds, since you said whosever believes on you will not perish but have everlasting life"

I asked this because I wanted to see whether you were trusting in your good deeds to get you into heaven or trusting solely on what Jesus Christ did for you. may I ask, what are you trusting in exactly to get you into heaven?

I think it’s a combination of both, if we acknowledge what Jesus did for us, like truly acknowledge it, and love him, we would want to please him, and how do we please God? Through our good deeds. That is our living proof of our love for God. I don’t live to go to heaven, I live to glorify God, because I love him:smile:

We must not forget how important our actions are. (I’m not saying you are wrong, of course you are free to believe as you wish!! This is just my point of view, and I live by what the bible says)

- James 2:24 “You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone.”
- James 2:14-17 What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.

God has provided the bible, church, fellow christians to help people know of him. He can't just take non-believers to heaven if they went against his word and never believed him.

It is like you inviting your frenemy to your party. Why would you invite someone who knew of you but still did wrong by you to your party? It would ruin the mood. It is also like a top uni taking someone who did bad in their alevels. Why should a uni invite someone who didn't work hard to enter their good uni?

Those are just examples but God tried and tried to let everyone he loves to join him. God loves us ALL equally. He CREATED us. He knew of us and our sins before we were born. Can you imagine? That's why there are so many convictions in the bible of people who use to do wrong by God. They heard of God. They knew of him and how great he is and they repented their sins and gave their life to christ and went to heaven. God loves us so much that he wants us to know of him, believe in him so we can eventually meet him.
