Becoming a counsellor

Is it possible to become a counsellor if you have a mental health nursing degree? Or would you have to do one in psychology

The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy likely has more detailed insight into how to become a counsellor there.
From a quick glance it seems there are different routes into counselling, at college level, degree level or training through some counselling organisations, but apparently it’s ‘often a second or third career, and life experience is highly valued.’

Generally speaking, it seems that yes you could - you would just need experience and further training. However, most people study MH nursing to become a Mental Health Nurse... Have you looked at degrees in Counselling & Psychotherapy if that’s the route you want to go down - it may be a more direct path than studying Nursing first?
