I don't know how you didn't get accepted then! Your extra curriculars sound very extensive and interesting. Were your grades not great in the subjects you wanted to take? (I do doubt that tho)

I applied for Bio (9), Chem (8) and Psychology (need a 7 in English lit and maths, both of which I’m predicted a 9 for)
I’m guessing it could be because they are VERY popular courses?

hey, im a yr 11 tiffin girls student, and we all have an automatic conditional offer to go to sixth form, providing we all meet the same requirements as you externals. on out skl website it says that "A minimum of 20 places will be offered to external applicants. Final numbers will vary
depending on combination of courses, availability of spaces and the number of Year 11
students from The Tiffin Girls’ School who move into the Sixth Form." but the majority of ppl in yr 11 stay for sixth form (legit only 3 ppl in my class are definitely leaving), so getting in as an external will obviously be harder. Also, to tell the truth, all the qualifications u have arent a patch on ppl's here, where some girls had done their g8 piano in y7! our skl has so many ball girls too, so the skl aint gonna be that impressed. even if some of the girls in yr11 are leaving its not cos they cant get in, its legit only to do other subjects or go to a specialist skl (e.g. one girl is going to the BRIT skl which is so cool). loads also go to the boys skl cos its literally the sam but mixed

Hope that helped!

Yeah it's definitely tough!! A total of 71 is very impressive - I think a lot of it is to do with course availability, as I know someone who got in who got a much lower score than you. If you got the email (like me) saying you're on the reserve list (not the waiting list), that means you're in still with a chance as it depends on GCSEs. Now I'm just revising hard for them so I can re-apply, because you never know

That's helpful thanks, I applied to Tiffin Boys but I think it's the same sort of thing. I guess competition is rlly tough and there are little places, so I shouldn't take it to heart if I don't get in after results day! I'm currently on the reserve list which means it depends on GCSE results

Mine were maths and further maths (9), Spanish (9) and psychology (targeted 7 in English).
Is there any way you could appeal or ask them about it? I seriously don't understand how you wouldn't meet their requirements

I’ve thought about appealing but I don’t want to piss them off if they’re then going to take my results on results day? If they still turn me down then, then I will!

yes well of course, there is bound to be extraordinary people in every single school, not just tiffins. I also know people in tiffins girls school who's qualifications aren't a patch compared to mine. it really depends on the person...

When's your GCSEs? I thought that's what you were using to apply in the first place. I also feel like those in the reserve list will get in, as you mentioned in an earlier post since you exceed the requirements by a fair bit so there really shouldn't be any issue with those on the reserve list getting a place.

Well I applied with my predicted GCSE grades but they were right at the beginning of the year - 8.125 was what I applied with. I'm pretty sure I can get 8.5 in the real GCSEs. I'm currently doing them and they last for 3 weeks, but these exams won't solely count towards my grade as we've also had class tests. Yeah I guess I've just got to hope for the best that they do get through the reserve list, obvs we don't know how many people are on the 'top end' reserve list, but it says on the rejection email that my friend got that they always get to the waiting list so surely that means they always get through the reserve list?? That's just my guess tho! Obvs we haven't been given much info

I feel like you're right to be honest. Due to having come from inside the school, I have no idea how fierce the competition for external places are but it seems that many want in. I am also going through exams, best of luck to you, and I hope you make it! :biggrin:T

Thanks, I hope so too! Best of luck to you too in exams
Original post by cleveranimal56
You should: declining someone that got 71 in their top 8 is ridiculous. I'm here doing my exams and hoping for 68, with a confirmed place (I'm already in the school btw) and someone with 71/practically the highest you can get is struggling with a place. I hope you do get in, since many on this thread have mentioned how they have far exceeded the entry requirements and are still not offered a guaranteed placement.

Thank you!! I’ll defo consider it, but hopefully see you there in September if I ever get in lol. Good luck with your exams!

A grade score of 71 out of 72 is insane! Good luck in your exams, not that you'll need it!!

Hi this is unrelated to the rest of the conversation but if anyone is interested in some stats I found out in my meeting that there were 1036 external applicants that applied and of them 80 were accepted into tiffins boys sixth form.
