Hi @Anonymous Oh no you definitely want to try avoid burnout if you can as a student! The tips above are a really good way to avoid burnout. I also think it’s important to think about your approach to exams eg if you have an exam in a few weeks try time manage a little study every day so you aren’t cramming and are exhausted at the end! I definitely also think sorting the workloads out eg having short breaks in between can be a great way to boost productivity and reduce burnout! I highly recommend talking walks outside during these breaks or time away from a screen to help you recover and not feel totally burnout. I highly recommend contacting your lectures and using your uni services- they might know some tips to avoid burnout or the best way to study for your course! Good luck with your studies Lancaster university student ambassador Holly
Do you have a personal tutor and/or course friends to talk to? Even just opening up about it can really help and be a weight off your shoulders. Agreed with the tips from the users above

It's so important not to spread yourself too thin. Little and often always worked well for me as a student, but I remember how difficult it felt to do that especially as exams got closer and closer and all I wanted to do was cram my brain full of whole textbooks! Make sure to keep some time for yourself throughout exam seasons and definitely after to give yourself time to recover. Listen to your body, if it's telling you it needs a rest then be kind to yourself and rest. You've got this! -Abi

Hi There! It is so important to look after your mental wellbeing, I try and make sure (definitely when getting near to deadlines) I plan in advance meeting up with friends or time for myself to regroup. I also think that break helps me think of solutions for any problems I have in my coursework or studies.

Hey Anonymous,
It's great to hear that you do really love what you study! You are definitely not alone and many other people go through the same thing especially during high-pressure periods such as close to deadlines or exams. Things that have really helped me to prevent this is doing things little and often. Every day during the academic year I try to take some time to commit key facts to memory which can help. I would also say to try and get into a good routine which can be useful and tends to keep me in a positive mindset. Also, remember even during the peaks of exam season to take some time out to socialise and meet people can be so good to keep your mindset positive and give you a proper break.
Remember, you can always contact your university's wellbeing centre and they can help you manage burnout and prevent it.
I hope this helps you out and feel free to let us know if you have any questions! From,

I hear you. Sometimes you have to be a little bit selfish and put yourself first. Those who matter will understand. You're not superhuman, nobody is, so do things your way and don't be afraid to ask for help if you need it.

Hi Anonymous,
I'd recommend speaking to your student support services to see if there are any techniques you can try to help and minimise burnout. I'd also get in touch with tutors and let them know in case you're able to get extensions to take the pressure off. During exam seasons make sure to still make time for yourself. Maybe allocate certain afternoons off in the week and allocate a certain amount of time to do exercise everyday. If you feel like you can't study anymore, don't force yourself to continue, rest and take a break.
