Gap Years and Universities

There are some competitive courses like Medicne where they may want the deferral from the start, but for most Uni courses it is something you can ask for later. However, the earlier you ask for a deferral the better. If you leave it until after May/June to ask, its possible that a Uni may have reached its limit on deferrals for that course and may say No.

Sorry, new person to the discussion, do you happen to know how you go about doing that? Do you do so when you accept the offer, or is it sort of separate endeavour?
