whats the easiest methodology for analysing profit in a dissertation? or any adivce

I am currently doing my dissertation and it is about how regulation affects bank profits or practice. I already have a layout of what I want to talk about, however, I do not know what methodology I should use.

I would like to know any easiest methodology for analysing profit or any advice. I am aware that I cannot use any primary data or primary methods such as focus groups or surveys in my dissertation
