AQA English Literature A-Level Help Needed

If anyone has ever gotten an A/A* in the AQA English Lit (Spec B) A Level I'd really appreciate any advice. Long story my English teacher has held a grudge against me for a complaint I made and is now teaching me/giving me the minimum help he possible can. I've got A*'s in practice exams before, and also D's. I need an A to get my uni offer. My biggest issue isn't knowledge but essay writing, I know the content but I struggle to choose what to write about and include all of the many many different things they need to see. It seems like enigma to me, I'm trying out different techniques but I seem to be getting more confused and further from the A.

If anyone has ever consistently written Band 5 essays, what sort of things were on your 'mental checklist' when writing the essays and what key things really helped you achieve top grades?
