aargh ffs!
i just rang them and asked if there was any news and was told that they've sent the recommendations to the departments and were in the process of confirming candidates, but that it could be the end of the week before we hear! Im getting sick of them constantly changing the deadline ...

Med physics candidates only?

Oh, ok. End of the week is pretty bad considering they were meant to have sorted it all out by last Friday (according to their own earlier estimates).

I am losing all hope that my specialism will be notified as per their initial schedule (next week) and they cannot be relied upon.

To be fair, as long as you have (or are on course to) a 2.1 degree in relevant subject the rest comes down to your experience (i.e. in the lab) and ability to tick the boxes. The document used for shortlisting was posted several times on this thread, and according to that having postgrad experience only gives you 1 extra point (well, and maybe another point for having a published work, that's it - 2 extra points on whole application). So all "advantage" of people with PhD's/posgtrad is down to their ability to talk about things they do and giving examples of transferable skills. As long as you have enough experience to meet all criteria on person specification it shouldn't really matter.
Of course I can't really vouch for life sciences disciplines, but from my experience in engineering recruitment the whole process was fair and having a postgrad degree would not give you a significant edge on other applicants. And as they're trying to centralise the whole scheme, I would be surprised if this is significantly different for other disciplines.
Best of luck for whatever you decide to do, but don't be put off by people saying "it's impossible to get in without a PhD"

Ah right okay thanks for the info  i guess ill wait and see when i graduate what would be the best thing to do and perhaps try and get a load of lab exeriance etc  good luck to you to

I rang at about 1 and got the same answer, but had my offer within half an hour. Think they are just covering their backs somewhat. Good luck, hope you hear soon anyway.

I had a letter saying I have been recommended for a place for MedPhys with the London North Consortium. I don't really understand...can London still turn me down or is this equivalent to an offer??
Apparently I've got 3 days to reply to "progress with the recommendation".

I was also confused with this, so rang them up to clarify - this is a definite offer subject to fulfilment of criteria that are stated in the letter (references, CRB etc). It says "recommendation" because West Midlands can't make you an offer - it has to be made by employing trust. But they've already confirmed they are happy to take you on, so should be no problems as long as you meet all conditions!
Congratulations!

Any Med Physicists for St. Georges yet?

i cant believe histo people know before biochemists! has anyone heard for biochem?

Congrats all

histocompatability and immunogenetics were interviewed on the monday with immunology the day before you, so guessing you'll hear tomorrow.

I'm also on the reserve list for immuno/H&I so mixed feelings about it, didn't think I'd done well in the interview so pleasantly suprised to make the reserves, but also now incredibly frustrated to receive an email that basically says 'you were one of the best that didn't quite cut it' lol

congratulations people that have been offered places

Thanks so much for clarifying this, I was getting really annoyed for a minute there. I hope to hear something tomorrow now. Well done for making reserve, you will make quite a contender for next year (if you wanna got through this nightmare again).

Is there anyone still waiting to hear back from the immunology interviews on 11th?

I don't know but I think the consensus is that no news is sometimes good news. The NHS have been having delays when confirming places with the Trusts; this is after they have already made the recommendation to the Trust, so its unlikely they won't accept but they obviously have to play it safe.

I'm waiting to hear back for Biochem, and every day I don't hear back I'm just gona assume its a good thing...
Hey yes offers for Southeast Biochemistry were sent out yesterday evening. Royal Surrey are sorting out who of the 6 people are going to which hospital in the next couple of days, taking candidate preferences and supervisor preferences into account.
