Warwick vs Bath for Physics

I am unsure which university to pick between the two 😭
I think both of the campuses seem right for me and I do slightly prefer the Bath course but I often see people say Warwick is better.
For Bath : AAA 5 years MPhys (Hons) Physics with Astrophysics with professional placement, research placement or study abroad
Warwick: A*AA Physics with Astrophysics Bsc

Would i be missing out if i didn’t pick Warwick?
And is it true Bath is targeted less by employers or will my graduate prospects be similar?

Both are equal to me.

Warwick is RG and is generally more reputable. The Math department is very strong, if you specialise in Mathematical physics then the Math department could really help.
Bath has the research placement, and you prefer Bath.

Depends. If you still don't know... what grades would you get in A-level? If you really don't know, flip a coin

Hi there,

Great to hear you’ve got some good offers! Both are top choices for the course, and you would be getting great education from either.

I cannot speak on Warwick although I know it is ranked highly for its courses, however I can give some information about Bath.

My initial advice is for you to research into both the courses at each university, have a look around which modules you’ll be taking and consider if any of them stand out to you or peak your interest as this may sway you in some way.

Outside of the course is also important to consider. For example, Bath has amazing support systems in place for everything. You’ll receive tutors, mentors etc for academic assistance. Bath also offers tons of financial and well being support and is always actively looking out for all its students. They also have 24 hr security in place so if you’re ever in trouble there’s a number to call!

The city itself would be good to look at as you’ll be living there for a few years. I cant speak on the area around Warwick but Baht city is beautiful. The transport is super easy as everything in the city is in one place which is only a ten minute bus ride to the campus. As well there are always student socials and activities going on but if you’re ever feeling like a city vibe, Bristol is right around the corner!

To answer your question on employers, I would say it’s the opposite! Lots of employers in both placement year and postgraduate actually target Bath students and Bath has lots of connections to great companies.

Hope this helped and good luck in your decision!

It really is to personal opinion! I studied briefly in Warwick for engineering and I can speak for the prestige of the uni 100%. I really got this impression from students and teachers that we were in one of the top institutions in the UK, but also the amount of opportunities there for you are insane.

BUT.

If we’re talking about the day to day life, any kind of campus can be really isolating at times. Consider the city nearby and what it might offer for you.

Coventry wasn’t very nice at all so the options for a day trip were quite limited, and people usually just went out at night.
But Bath city speaks for itself in safety and beauty, and I’m sure it’ll provide a really great community experience for second year.

Think about the kinds of people there, Warwick very much work hard play hard people (which can be intense but very very fun) but I’m not sure what the people are like at Bath.

Finally think about the course.
Pretty tedious but if you don’t like some of the things you’re required to do, it might be worth picking the other place.

Hope this gives you a start on where to go with your decision
