Converting MRes to PhD

Hi, I'm currently studying a research masters (MRes) in the subject area of packaging materials which is funded by a packaging company. I have the opportunity to convert the masters into a PhD which will still be funded. This would mean it would be an additional 2 years and I would gain a PhD rather than an MRes.

I am struggling to make a decision whether to complete the MRes and go into a career within sustainability research or corporate or to do the extra 2 years for a PhD and then get a career. I am also concerned that by doing a PhD it may overqualify me for work within a corporate company. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks .
