The Student Room Group

What's better at AS level: 3 A's or 4 B's?

At AS level, is it better to get 3 A's or 4 B's?

If someone is already not a strong student, is it better to go for 4 subjects and achieve average scores in the first year at AS, or is it better to just stick to 3 subjects and try to get better scores?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

3As 100%, universities only care about your top 3 subjects unless you take further maths as your fourth

Thanks, that's what I was thinking too.

But do schools look down on students who only took 3 subjects in AS?

No, as long as you get good grades they don't care.

Just to be clear, you know I mean 3 in AS, and the same 3 to finish A Level.
(I don't mean 4 in AS, and 3 to finish)

It's basically homeschooling with online tutors, and I'm anticipating lower grades, so I'm wondering if it's worth it to struggle through Year 12 with 4 subjects. Seems like a much better idea to go straight to 3 subjects, no?

Thanks!
