OCR Level 3 Business Unit 2:Working in Business

Hi all
I was wondering if anyone could give some feedback and a mark on the following 12 marker:
Emma’s Specials is required by law to hold a gas safety certificate to trade. The deadline for renewal of the restaurant’s gas safety certificate is 1 July 2019.
Evaluate likely impacts on Emma’s Specials of not renewing its gas safety certificate by the deadline. [12]
One likely impact on Emma’s Specials of not renewing its gas safety certificate by the deadline is the legal implications. By failing to abide to the law by updating with a new certificate and continuing trading, the government could impose fines which would harm the business’ reputation and financial situation as it would need to pay the fines and the costs for the certificates. This impact is quite significant as it drains the business’ money, making it harder to continue trading and if added up over a long time, could result in bankruptcy or the business closing down.
Another likely impact on Emma’s Specials of not renewing its gas safety certificate by the deadline is the potential danger that is presented. The gas safety certificate has been made mandatory for a valid reason, in order to show that Emma’s Specials and other businesses that they are safe to work with. By failing to get the mandatory checks done, the gas could be unsafe which could lead to potential leaks, damaging employees/customers and perhaps even resulting in death in the most severe cases. Such an impact defines a significant impact on Emma’s Specials, as customers will be lost and financial lawsuits entailing to mass amounts of money could ensue.
Another likely impact of Emma’s Specials of not renewing its gas safety certificate is the loss of trust with employees and customers. The certificate is used to ensure the safety of the people on the premises and that they won’t be harmed by fault. By evading the revaluation of the gas, Emma’s Specials would harbour a certificate, which is visible to the public, that has expired. By showing that it is expired, and no action has been taken to rectify it, customers and employees could feel unsafe. If this carries on for a long time, employees might quit, and customers would look to satisfy their demands elsewhere. This would lead to a downfall in revenue and a damaged business reputation.
Ultimately, the most significant impact that Emma’s Special’s is likely to incur if they don’t update their gas safety certificate is the potential loss of life due to the uncertainty surrounding the safety of their gas. Whilst all factors pose financial risk/loss, the loss of life is insurmountably the most costly, damaging business reputation and families with lawsuits being worth far more than the other two factors of loss of trust with customers/employees and fines.
Many thanks
