Is it worth asking a gym staff the full name of a member?

Hi all,

I wanted to get your opinion on whether or not this was worth trying.

Last year at the gym, there was a young lady who caught my eye, and I think she may have been interested. We would talk a bit (nothing too deep, just a polite, passing type conversation), and come December I had to stop going to the gym for a bit as we were moving offices. I mentioned this to her, and that I would be back in January; she said she would still be around in the new year and we would catch up then. I should point out I live far from where I work, so it wasn't feasible to travel that distance to go to the gym, when there are several closer to me.

There was a delay in our new office opening, which meant that it wasn't until March when I could return. So when the office opened, I went to the gym again but she wasn't there. I spoke to another guy there who knew her, who said that she was definitely around in January, but hadn't seen her for a couple of weeks. Anyway, I've been going regularly since then and have not seen her around since then. So yeah, I can take it as red she's left the gym now.

If possible, I'd like to try and trace her on Social Media, but I only have her first name. I'm on reasonably good terms with the gym staff there (Not best friends, but they definitely know me as a regular). I know they can't give out personal details such as addresses or phone numbers, but I'm wondering if you think they may tell me her full name?

I know this is a slightly unusual approach, but currently I've got limited opportunities to meet new people (I've got no faith in dating apps, and I can't go to the pub or club anywhere near as much as I would like to). On the other hand, it's now been six months since I last had any contact with her, so there's every chance she may have moved on. But you miss 100% of the shots you don't take don't you.

So yeah, is it worth a shot, or should I just cut my losses?

This happened to my buddy Eric one time, he asked the staff and they politely escorted him out the building and revoked his membership. Do NOT try this.

I wouldn't do this. Rightly or wrongly, it just sounds a bit creepy, let's be honest. I'd just forget about it and move on.

Answered your own question there!

Names come under GDPR, so don't ask.

No chance. Not only is it creepy it would also be a blatant breach of GDPR.

It’s a very bad idea and they absolutely shouldn’t give this information. Plenty more fish and who knows your paths may cross again
