Drama Schools

Hi! So I'm looking at different drama schools to apply to next year. I am interested in doing a BA in acting or Musical theatre. I wondered if anyone has done either of these courses in any (English speaking) Drama school?
I'm particularly love to hear from anyone in these courses at Royal central, Rada, GSA, LAMDA, LIPA, Italia Conti, Bird, Manchester school of theatre, Guildhall and any other uk, eu or irish drama school. Any opinions or info would be great! Thank you

Hi !! I'm someone whose been auditioning for 2 years and have studied with Bristol School of acting (if you have any questions or know anyone whose curious about the courses they have then do send them my way as I know a lot of people who are there and I knew the head) besides that I have a lot of friends who are currently studying or graduated from some of the schools you've listed plus I can give you my own account of what the schools are like in auditions.

If you've got any questions do send them my way plus I must mention that these schools change each year in the way they audition, teach and represent themselves. Whatever information I mention will be mainly with in the time I had audition as well as my friends as everyone's experience is different especially when attending there.

All I can say is the fundamental core values/structure stay the same usually depending on the course and I found most students like that and some being that my friends that attended LAMDA, RADA, CENTRAL, Oxford school of drama, E15 and Rose Bruford don't like it.

Acting courses plus musical theatre courses are different in every school and each school has their what they call "main practice" or practitioners but Stanislavski shall be taught in every school as he is the godfather. If you are looking for a course that is Acting & Musical theatre then I would advise MOUNTVIEW, Italia Conti, GSA, Leeds Conservatoire, RWC, RSC and Central. Their acting course (not much of central/RSC except the musical theatre one) have lots of graduates that go on the West end for musical shows or devise their own for festivals or go into working on musicals kids theatre. I've had a lot of Urdang , Royal Welsh and Leeds Conservatoire graduates come and perform shows at my theatre in Musical theatre. I hope this source of info helps give a feel of the schools your interested plus I found the East 15 contemporary theatre course had many actors into Musical+acting who were on the course, graduating and got to final round.

Do get in touch if you have any questions and best of luck as someone whose auditioning still the best piece of advice I would give is know your worth, believe in the pieces as well as yourself and trust yourself plus the process (I know I'm possibly contradictive saying it but quite honestly this is what I've been told by heads of drama schools, graduates, people attending them now and theatre professionals). Take it as you will but be you, love yourself (self care very important) and HAVE FUN!!!

Hi there, you seem to be well-versed with drama school auditions. I know that you were answering the other guys question but I have one of my own. I have a final round audition at Guildhall coming up in the next few weeks and was wondering if you or anyone you may know has any insight into it. I have prepared lengthily and want to make sure I cover all bases so I have the best chance possible in getting a place.

Thanks

Congratulations on the final round!!!

Unfortunately, I don't know anyone who attended Guildhall's acting courses but I did meet a 2020 graduate in a workshop. They told people who were auditioning to just trust the process as well as yourself and I get this continuously from graduates/students is to enjoy the pieces you brings as well as the audition. Overall have fun!!!

Another thing as I know the final round includes a song is to not think about "Oh I need to be the best singer ever like Elaine Paige or I must be able to sing" is to think about the story you are trying to tell as it's just like any monologue but as song. Like verse in shakespeare it's got a rhythm/beat that has a reason.

I hope this info is helpful but as well experiment with the pieces to see what you can find as every audition is like a workshop which is weird to say but frankly it is with lots of nerves and higher stakes.

I'm sorry I don't have proper indepth info for this school as this year was my first time auditioning for Guildhall and I didn't make it to the next round.

Main tip though be yourself (especially in the interview).
