Brunel University or Kent university for Military history?

I am trying to decide between two good options, but don't know which one to pick. I did my first year at Brunel, and thought it was alright, but I can't help but feel that maybe Kent is more suited to me; it has more clubs and societies, more people on the course etc. Only problem is I have met some good friends at Brunel (not too many though), and I am doing very well at the course. Any help would be appreciated

Hi there

Whilst I don't personally study Military History, I have quite a few friends that do and they really enjoy the course. Most of my friends have actually stayed on to do a masters. In terms of Kent itself, the campus is located around a 15 minute walk from town. There are a variety of facilities on campus such as a library, co ops, book shop, cafes, multiple bars and eateries, an on campus nightclub, gym and sports centre etc. In terms of societies, there are hundred to choose from at Kent. I have been a part of numerous societies during my time at Kent and they are a great way to socialise and meet new people. I will leave below a link to the list of societies at Kent so that you can take a look if you want. There is also a scheme run by the uni called the give it a go scheme. This is basically where the student union host a variety of events where you can quite literally 'give it a go'. Most tend to be free and you just have to show up or book a time slot. Sone of the activities include painting, puppy yoga, axe throwing, games nights, cocktail making, cheese and wine tasking, dance classes, zumba, bubble football, pottery, rock climbing etc. Hope this gives you a bit of an insight as to what Kent is like. If you have any specific questions to help make your decision then please let me know!

Hi @Celeste23 ,

While I don't study military history myself, here is some information I found about the course: Military History - BA (Hons) - Undergraduate courses - University of Kent. You can also apply through clearing (Clearing - University of Kent).

You can look at the modules available (as well as the placement year and year abroad options with this degree) to get an idea of what you cover throughout your 3 or 4 years!

Are you interested in studying at Kent? We have a number of ways you can find out what being a student at Kent would look life for you:

Open days:

Open days are a great way to meet lecturers and students who teach and study the degree you want to do - and a chance to explore campus and Canterbury.

For open day information you can find it here: Open Days - Visit Kent - University of Kent but if you cannot attend an open day, no worries as there are virtual events and tours available too so you can explore campus at your own pace from the comfort of your own home: Visit Kent - University of Kent. You can also be taken through what the history department has to offer through this personalised experience that uses your circumstances (home/international student and what subject you are intending to study to tell you about what is on offer: What's your ambition? - Kent Virtual Experience)

Stories from students:

Visiting Kent and Canterbury:

Finally, you can book a campus tour at a time that suits you and visit Canterbury anytime! A quick google will show you how beautiful canterbury is but instead of taking my word for it, I would recommend visiting yourself over a few days!

I hope this helps but do let us know if you have any questions. Joanna who initially responded to the post is no longer a student rep but the current reps do monitor posts on the Kent forum.
