KCL clearing

I was looking at the clearing options this year, and was surprised to see that KCL had so many competitive courses in clearing.

They had computer science, medicine, artificial intelligence all in clearing. Is this a mistake or is it legit, because it seems too good to be true.

I want to apply to the AI course, but if my grades are lower than the entry requirements can I still apply?

Check the UCAS website, look for clearing options
You’d need to call them to confirm. UCAS may not be up to date.

It's legit assuming you've already got your grades. Idk about getting in with lower than entry requirements but you can still apply via the clearing form? I'm sure they'll at least consider the application and if not they give you the option to apply to another course via clearing anyway.
KCL have an updated clearing page for 2023 now I was checking it all day lol: https://www.kcl.ac.uk/study/undergraduate/clearing/home

I mean I’ve already accepted an offer at Warwick, and insurance at RHUL. But given I don’t want to go to Warwick, I want to apply to KCL Ai instead.

Is this possible? And do you know whether AI at KCL is competitive?

I'll be honest I have no idea if AI is competitive or not but I'm sure there are websites that can give you stats for that. To apply through clearing you have to reject your current offers so it's pretty risky. It may be a good idea to phone them if you can?

If you don’t want to go to Warwick then call UCAS today and ask to swap your replies so that it’s not your firm choice.

But is there a way for me to keep royal Holloway as an insurance, but apply to KCL artificial intelligence?
also what grades would I apply with, my predicted?

Short answer, no. You can only use clearing if you are holding no offers. You can't hold on to your insurance choice, (you might want to call them and see if they'd still honour or reinstate it later if you changed your replies to declined to explore clearing options).

You'll need your achieved grades to use clearing.

As above - you can't keep it as insurance with a clearing choice as firm (clearing offers are all unconditional).

You could swap it to be your new firm choice so you have somewhere you like as your firm choice and if you get higher grades than expected then you can contact KCL to see if they'll consider you in clearing while placed with RHUL

There's zero point hanging on to warwick as your firm if you don't like it though. Phone UCAS to swap it out asap - then warwick can give that place to someone else on results day or in clearing and you get some good karma that might help you get to KCL

Here’s my issue, I’m predicted A*AA, and KCL wants A*A*A.
However, I’m anticipating A*AB on results day, which will likely lead to an instant rejection by KCL. Warwick only want 3As, but it’s a course i don’t want to do anymore.

It is highly unlikely a course requiring A*A*A will end up in clearing. The reason a university sets such high grades is that it is certain it will fill its places.

I would suggest ringing Kings to check this is correct and that it isnt on in error.

It is possible that due to Kings problems last year that students arent applying there this year but you certainly need to check this out.

If you dont get the grades for Kings what do you intend doing. Are you still going to Warwick or not. If you dont intend going there you willbe better withdrawing taking the chance on Kings then going to your insurance if you dont get in.

Believe me, I’m as surprised as you are. It’s strange how a course requiring A*A*A is in clearing. But if not too many people are applying to the course, surely they’ll consider lower grades. I’m guaranteed A* in maths (inshallah) which exceeds the A in maths they’re asking for. I’ve also got my own tech startup that specialises in machine learning and NLP. Seemly it’s a huge plus and they will consider me?

Have you actually checked with Kings. It might be an error. Sometimes universities havent taken themselves off and it is left on in error.

The reality is this kind of course doesnt end up in clearing and certainly at this time of year. Leading universities dont declare their clearing courses until results day and even when they enter it is for very few places.

Last year Kings had 11 courses in clearing and they will be the less popular.

I suppose it is possible Kings issues last year might have impacted on this year but I think you really need to check this. I doubt they will have the kind of numbers needed to reduce grades. They will be able to fill their course with people achieving the grades.

KCL have updated their own website with a list of courses in Clearing.

I can't see any grade reductions so it may be they're trying to top up with candidates with results from the IB or last years AL's.

Looks like they only had a few places in that case, (or it wouldn't have appeared on their clearing page in the first place). Odd that they're updating the course pages but not the clearing one though.

No harm in people calling them to double check.

Calling them is the only sensible action for them to clarify. Medicine is on clearing but closed as well.

Regardless of the situation if you don't want to go to warwick then ring UCAS to swap your replies so they're no longer your firm choice. Having a firm that you don't want will delay things whether you want to go to RHUL or elsewhere in clearing.
