How long are NSV CTC Security Checks valid for?

Hi

I've just been granted my CTC clearance. I am wondering if anyone knows how long it is valid for? The PDF says 10 years, but my understanding is that this is only the case if you end up taking up the offer?
I was told that, otherwise, it is valid for 6 months. Is this correct?

Unlock (a charity) and Dec 2022 Government guidance typically says CTC lasts for 3 years if you're a civil servant or 5 years if you're a government contractor. It's important to note that your department can review your CTC when new information is provided or at their discretion. It's generally every 3 years. Your departments recruitment team can explain how often they repeat vetting. They have to repeat the process regardless every 10 years of employment. That's where the 10 year part comes from. They check every 3yrs/even less in some departments but also do a manual review, security questionnaire full process again every 10 years of employment.
