How’s it to study speech and language therapy masters at Essex?

Any current master student of the Msc Speech and Language Therapy? How’s life at Essex? Is it a very demanding course? Is finding a job as a Speech therapist hard after completing the degree at Essex?

Hey @wcyyy!

Colchester has lots of really fun and interesting place to go to - we even have a castle! There is lots to do here including theatres, cinemas, bars (some fun and quirky and others with great music and night life), vintage shops, games cafes, restaurants (which are so tasty!) and we're only a 20 minute drive away from the nearest beach! Colchester if both full of amazing History (being the oldest recorded town in the UK) but thriving with lots to do and a great mix of things for everybody.

Have a look here at more of the great things you can do in and around Colchester: https://www.essex.ac.uk/life/colchester-campus/local-area

We love it here and hope you would too! ✨🎆😁🎓

When it comes to your course, you will have placements alongside your theory work. Your placements will vary in length and are linked to the objectives of the modules you are studying. You will have a minimum of 150 clinical experience sessions (approximately 75 days). Speech and Language Therapy placements tend to fall Monday-Friday and within office hours (e.g between 8am -6pm). To provide the best opportunities, we use a wide network of placements across the Eastern region, which means you will likely have to travel approximately 90 minutes from campus. We allocate students on placements throughout the entire East of England region (e.g. Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Norfolk, Suffolk) and surrounding areas. 🚅🚗🥼

After your degree our graduates go on to work in different settings such as, clinical, management and education positions in local Trusts, Hospitals, Schools, care organisations, and Higher Education Intuitions. 91% of our postgraduate graduates are in highly skilled employment (Graduate Outcomes 2022) 🎓🎓🎓
