Starting uni in september (criminology)

i'm starting a criminology course at the university of sunderland next month and i'm so excited, i've always wanted to do this and it's taken a lot for me to get to this position. i wanted to do some extra reading before i start the course, i know some bits and pieces as i've just come from a psychology course but i'd love to get a better head start.
i also have adhd so any advice on how to remain focused and structure revision would be great too!!
thank you )

Hey there!

I'm so happy your excited! As a criminology student myself (though at lancaster) I can say it's such a great degree!

One habit I'd say to get into from now is reading crime news. The best part of criminology is how relevant it is to the world in the moment, so keeping up to date with any major news stories, thinking about how they portray it, the images they use etc can be really useful. Can also provide great examples for coursework! As for any other extra reading, see if you can read any academic articles or other materials around the things that interest you most. I did a bit of extra reading around county lines as that's where my interests lie.

For staying focused, I personally found it helped to schedule my week. I'd see where I had gaps of time on campus and schedule to do certain readings for different modules in those gaps. Knowing I had 1.5 hours to do a set bit of work and giving my own mini deadlines helped me remain focused.

Good luck and I hope that helps!

Congratulations on securing your offer!
Are you staying in student accommodation? Let me know if you have any questions about moving in day/generally moving to Sunderland

RE revision, I always create a timetable as it allows me to see what I've got on each day/week and fit in other things such as socialising and part time work.
I also use flash cards to remember key info and stay focused.
Hope this helps
