Marketing and management to fashion design ma

So I am going to marketing and management at university as I'm interested in marketing and a career within marketing sounds great and management can also lead to some good careers however my main passion which has been with me since a child is fashion design,

I was wondering what the chances of me being able to study a fashion design ma without the need for a post graduate diploma or a fashion ba ,
I already have a ual diploma in art and design however it is only a level 3.

I have looked at rca however I am alittle confused by there entry requirements as it says students are accepted on merit but not sure if they mean grades or ability

So far I am looking at

The university of Hertfordshire , the Royal college of arts , ual , Portsmouth, dmu , Southampton and few others.

My goal of with fashion is to be a designer with a brand /business

Hi there @Anonymous #1 - It's great to hear that you are passionate about Fashion Design and pursuing a career in the industry!:dancing:

Whilst Fashion Design masters' degrees usually lean more towards an undergraduate bachelors in Fashion, or a relevant subject or specialism of the industry, for our postgraduate courses at DMU we will consider applications for our Fashion and Textiles MA that have an undergraduate bachelors and industry experience on an individual basis. This is part of our mission at DMU to provide opportunities to people form a range of backgrounds and experiences!

If you are about to undertake a Marketing and Management undergraduate degree then you may want to consider going onto postgraduate courses such as Fashion Management with Marketing MA/MSc! This would be a great fit as degrees in business are considered, here at DMU, as relevant to the course and entry criteria:yep: - IF after three years you still want to study further of course!:colondollar:

I hope this has helped! Do let me know if there are any other questions or resources you would like:jive:
All the best for your upcoming studies,

Thank you Rose

Although I love marketing and management, I just feel like I would love to pursue the creative side of fashion , hopefully in three years time I will be applying for a fashion degree . Although I have l9oked at the fashion marketing and management masters I just dont feel like the degree aligns with my career goal of starting a brand. Although I love business I absolutely love fashion I just don't have the technical CAD skills and I worry that i will fall behind others.

Its great to know that DMU considers applications from different backgrounds 😀 I've been trying to research and contact different universities about it.

Would you happen to know I'd DMU considers people who have a small side hustle of selling designs as experience ? I am also looking at taking some ual online courses inthe future

As I'm trying to find what would help me shine or at least get me to an interview stage , I know I have years . Although I am passionate about pursuing a marketing and management degree and careers are intriguing I keep what if and what would happen if I just apply for a fashion design and I can be one of the lucky ones that make it or get to design for other company's as I am a creative at heart
Hi there,

The best course of action would be to speak to our Postgraduate team to confirm if your undergraduate course will count as a related subject. You can contact them via this webform.

However you may also be interested in our MA Fashion Marketing courses (one with 6 months professional placement, one without), which your Marketing and Management degree would certainly count as related.

Best of luck with your undergrad study and whatever you decide to do in the future!

That's understandable! Perhaps the online courses at UAL would provide you with these CAS and more technical skills of the industry? The practical methods and skill in fashion design and manufacturing is a very large part of the creative process as much as having the thoughts in the first place - I agree!

If you have current industry experience - which would include your own business and if you can provide evidence of this it helps even more! - then our Faculty would definitely consider this! There would also be an opportunity for you to shine (especially with your passion:heart:) most likely with a portfolio of work and the personal statement elements of the applications' process!

Fashion is a hard industry to break into (mainstream wise) but for those lucky few it is possible and we here at DMU wish you all the best!:crossedf::elefant:

Thank you. I did try contacting admissions, but they essentially said that they would need a cv plus a transcript of my degree before they can provide any advice or advice from a tutor.

Ideally, I would love to do the fashion design MA as I want to build a brand or design for companies.

Would you know if commissions or selling original designs would count as experience ? I have tried looking at internships, and they want ba fashion grads. Or if designing clothes for friends and family counts or entering competitions?
