Does it matter whether I pick MEng or BEng for UCAS application?

I applied for an MEng course on UCAS and sent it off but I would only do the course for a BEng. Does it really matter at this stage or should I subsitute?

Why did you apply for the MEng if you only want to do the BEng???

Check on the university website. I believe some courses allow you to drop down to the BEng equivalent after the first year.
It's usually easy to swap between the two in the first two years (just some admin paperwork), although a bit puzzling why you applied to the MEng if you only want to do the BEng. Worth bearing in mind that an MEng has a better funding model (less cost to you personally) than doing a standalone MSc after a BEng, incidentally.

I applied for General Engineering at Durham. There is no information on the website about switching between the two. It was also a mistake picking MEng as I was thinking of doing that for a BEng then doing a Masters in a more specialised area maybe at a different uni. Would it matter now or should I substitue? If I substituted, would my other applications be unaffacted?

Page 11 of their official prospectus clearly states students can switch between the two in the first two years: https://issuu.com/communicationsoffice/docs/2831_-_du_engineering_-_ug_brochure_update_screen_
If you apply for MEng, miss the grades, you might get rejected even if they are good enough for the BEng. So if at this stage you want to do the BEng, you're better off applying to that. What actually determines whether you do the BEng or MEng isn't what you put down on your UCAS form, but how well you do during university. If you perform well, you'll be invited to do the MEng (though you can easily still do the BEng). If you don't, regardless of what you put on UCAS or what A-level grades you achieved, you'll probably be on the BEng.

Don't do MEng as the market is constantly changing and imagine you change your opinion on what type of lifestyle works for you by the end of your degree. By doing a BEng, you give yourself the chance to have a postgraduate loan to change for your masters :frown: I realised too late and am now struggling to change sectors. Try to do a gap year and get work experience even if voluntary in the middle of your BEng. This way you can figure out what works for you lifestyle-wise as that's really important for your mental health when trying to progress in your career. Sometimes industry attitudes and mannerisms may play a part in whether you would want to be in the sector.
