Hi, for the accommodation does the uni allow you to submit preferences on gender and religion?

Yes to stating a preference for male or female only or mixed accommodation in student halls. This is common.

A Big Fat No for religion being any part of any landlords allocation policy (in any UK housing type anywhere in the country) due to national equality laws that ban discrimination on these grounds.

Residents can't be excluded from housing offers on the grounds that they are the 'wrong' religion. That's prejudice and it's completely illegal. I don't know a single student accommodation provider that allocates flats using the criteria of faith.

Universities in the UK pride themselves on their attention to equality, diversity and inclusion.

Strathclyde has students from many different faiths and nationalities and encourages them to mix under the 'Strathlife' philosophy.

Hi @twinkle_31 🙂 There's a space on the accommodation application for you to tell us your preferences. We use the information you give in that section to try our best to allocate you in to accommodation where you'll get along well with those you're sharing a flat with. For all students staying in halls, rooms have to be allocated fairly and we do our best to make sure applicants are comfortable and happy in their new living environment.
