The Student Room Group

Why does it become harder to concentrate as someone gets older?

When I was young, I could read a book for hours without interruption.

Now, I can hardly read 10 pages without checking on another website.

Does anyone feel the same?
probably reading more boring stuff. also increased self awareness. all the feelings and self-judgments are distracting

Yes you are right.
Anyone else having an opinion?

For a lot, it's the dopamine hit from screen time, it kills attention spans.

I can still do hours in a book if real life allows the respite.
but there's things i can still get absorbed in for ages - like anything to do with solving puzzles or codes or maths or something, or fixing things, or reading good fiction. some academic stuff doesn't hold my attention at all tho cos it's like there's no work for your brain to do, you're just reading someone's point of view
