if you chose economics under sciences, are you required to have A* as a level maths? Do you only chose one subject under major or can you chose more than one i.e philosophy and economics under Societies?

My understanding is that your major is just the broad area (e.g. "societies" or "health and environment") and you can take any options under it in whatever combination, with approval of your personal tutor. That said I believe for areas where the same subject comes up under both, you can't take those modules in the minor if they are part of the major.

Otherwise you need to meet any prerequisites for that subject to take it under your major or minor e.g. A* Maths for economics modules, A-level Chemistry for chemistry modules etc.
