really need help ! Personal statement postgraduate

Does anyone know what to mention in a postgraduate personal statement ? do you need to mention the professors u want to work with?
whats the structure like ?
The uni should specify (or strongly hint) what they’re looking for on either the postgrad course page or general application pages.

Speaking from experience, (I’m a postgrad admissions officer), mentioning specific staff can be a good way of demonstrating genuine interest but only if you explain why.

Hi,

As suggested above, this will really depend uni to uni. Im pretty sure from my masters it was mainly focused on:

outlining passion for the subject

the specific course

relevant work/research experience

what you hope to gain from the course

why the specific uni (could be a good place to discuss specific professors who you may want to do your dissertation with)

A masters by research/PhD application will be slightly different and will often require a research proposal and a similar statement to above, but would then be more focused on the academic staff you’re looking to work with and your relevant research experience and goals.

Where/what course are you applying for?

Best of luck with everything!!
Natalie
