The Student Room Group

What financial support is there available around placements?

The Government recently announced that from the 1 September 2023, financial support was increased to make healthcare studies more affordable.

Students will be able to claim more money for any trips taken as part of their training, such as clinical placements in hospitals. For example, a student who travels 1,000 miles by car or motorcycle during their placement will now receive £420 compared to £280 under the previous rates.

This has been created to help more students from low-income families and provide them with financial help and to support their development into higher education.

In addition to the non-repayable training grant for eligible nursing, midwifery and allied health professional students of up to £5000 per academic year, up to £3000 is available for childcare support or those studying certain specialisms, such as radiography or mental health nursing.
