Loughbourgh, Surrey or Royal holloway with placement years

I've gotten offers from all three unis for accounting and finance but I'm conflicted on what I should pick as I know loughbourgh has great graduate prospects and alot of connections with abroad unis for a year abroad, but I really like surrey and royal holloway. I'm also concerned with diversity as I am a black girl

Loughborough is likely to be more racially diverse than the other two - how into sport are you, its big at Loughborough.

I have like 0 interest in sports but I don't think it'll matter much if I do end up going

It wont matter if you are not into sport - there are plenty of other students who wont be either - but it does mean that yo 'll have a fabulous swimming pool on campus for those lazy Sunday afternoon swims.....
Surrey has by far the most experience and best reputation for finding placements for their students
Hi @ggkn

Congratulations on your multiple offers to study accounting and finance! Going to university is both exciting as it is nerve racking. You’ll probably have to stay there for 3-4 years, so it’s important that you make the choice that is best for you.

Here at Surrey, the Accounting and Finance degree has multiple professional recognitions such as:

Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA)
Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB)
Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA)
Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA)
Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW)
Institute of Chartered Accountants in Scotland (ICAS)

So, many students secure graduate jobs and placement opportunities at top companies. Additionally, the campus is only 30-40 minutes away from London, which is also another great way to access the job market. Therefore, you wouldn’t be limited in your graduate prospects.

Surrey also has an award-winning Careers and Employability Service. It’s completely free and they do CV checks, mock interviews, placement advice including much more. So, if you’re ever stuck and need more support, they are here to help. There are also top companies that hosts skills sessions and application talks for Surrey students. If you ever want to connect/network with alumni, who have done the same degree as you, we have our own platform available for that too!

If you’d like to study or work abroad during your degree, the university is well linked with numerous partner institutions around the world!

Personally, I would say that the University of Surrey is a fairly diverse place with its diversity well celebrated. We have students from all around the UK and the world, which is quite nice. People are generally friendly and you’ll most likely find someone who’s similar or shares the same interests as you. One of the best ways to make friends is to join societies & clubs, which includes many cultural ones that are well embraced here at Surrey. You can find more about them and our 6th Best Students’ Union in the UK here at: https://surreyunion.org/activity/clubs-societies/

The University has a well dedicated Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) Team and you can find more about them here: https://www.surrey.ac.uk/equality-diversity-and-inclusion
If you do ever encounter any unpleasant situations there are plenty of support and resources around to support you. The on-site Campus Safety team is also available 24/7 all year round to deal with any situations.

Whilst I can go on about how Surrey and Guildford are great, ultimately the choice comes down to you and your goals. So, wishing you the best of luck on your decision!

Best Regards,
Britina
