Dropping out of/ deferring uni second semester

Hi,
I am currently in year one of my degree. Back in September, I became unwell with glandular fever. However, I mostly recovered after a few weeks and managed to complete semester one.
Yet, in December I became really unwell again and have been for the last 6 weeks. I have missed the first week of uni and do not see me getting better.
Therefore, I need to make a decision about dropping out or deferring.
Will university allow me to defer and continue my second semester Jan 2025 or would I have to start in September (2024) again? What would also happen with my student loan?
I am really unsure what to do. Any advice appreciated :smile:

They will usually allow a health-related interruption of studies, yes. Loans would usually be paused etc because you'd strictly not be a student during the interruption. You need to speak to your academic advisor/personal tutor, really. They will know about the process.
