How does Cambridge admission actually works?

Hi, this is probably a dumb question but someone I know submitted their mphil application a week after I did, but they said they received a rejection recently but mine is still under department review despite submitting first. Just wondering how the process actually works, should I prepare for bad news? Thanks in advance!

frankly, nobody knows and it's also different per program. Officially, though, they say that as soon as your application is not competitive anymore, you will be rejected. So you should just assume you're still competitive, I guess!
