ok guys, well whatever it said. Basically all they want is someone who has known you long enough to know you more than just on face value and be able to write a report about you without being biased. The criteria was at least for me and Bob, that we had to have references that had known us for 3 years or more and I specifically chose two people who I thought knew me (my personality and my way of thinking etc.) the best.
I do know people who may think that they know me but actually don't, I' sure you can relate. Such as my boss at my 2nd job thinks I'm quiet and naive but actually, she's a bully, (and a Gordon Ramsey wannabe!) and I tent to just succumb to what she wants, at least for the next 4 months of my life until I leave (in fear of being sacked) - but i wouldn't put her down for a referee. It's all good and well telling interviewers about yourself in an interview but they can't say if you're genuine or not so referee's just make a confirmation I suppose.

Sorry to carry on but maybe Adzha did have a requirement to meet with the character references and perhaps BAE were after something quite specific which was to do with the role that was applied for. I got that statement in my email Bob, and my circumstances have changed a lot as well and I had to be careful who I put down too as I have met people along the way who I haven't known for 3 years. I'd have thought your's will be fine! (Not sure about your sister's fiance sometimes you have to be careful with family refrences.. but I'm not one to judge) The clue is in the statement "character" refrences that is what BAE want them (the referee's) to provide, a reference about your "character", for their use. I know you now want to sit me in the Mastermind chair and read me questions on my specialist subject, "the bleeding obvious", but sometimes it does just take someone to point it out and just clarify the reasons behind a few things! Off the subject now anyway, I wrote that when I was sozzled last night after comin in from town haha, so im quite impressed! hehe! or is that a bad thing lol? :-p

Yeh, I'm not arguing that others had to have certain references, just I did.

As you say it may be specific to that role or site.

Wondered if anyone on hear could help me seeing as you probably know a fair bit about BAE Systems. Does anyone know what Global Combat Systems is, and what it replaced? I know it's part of Land and Armaments, but wanted to know whether it's a new division, or simply a new name for an existing division.

Rep for good answers. Quote if you respond

Reads.. (written in 2004);

Global Combat Support System-Army (GCSS-Army)

GCSS-Army is the primary tactical logistics enabler to achieve the Army Campaign Plan and Combat Support/Combat Service Support (CS/CSS) Transformation Vision in support of soldiers in the field. The GCSS-Army rollout will allow more than 135,000 soldier and contractor users in the total army to view complete logistics management information and make timely, data-driven decisions.

The initiative will integrate and streamline operations from factory to foxhole across a single army logistics enterprise and will replace 14 standard army mission information system baselines comprising several thousand disparate legacy applications currently in use worldwide.

Currently the largest and most complex U.S. Army logistics automation technology initiative, Global Combat Support System-Army (GCSS-Army) is being implemented to transform supply chain business processes to enhance logistics support of Army tactical combat operations.

The software technology solution is based on a SAP application, which will provide the U.S. Army with accurate logistics management information for effective execution of supply, maintenance and property accountability operations as well as timely data sharing with other Army and Department of Defense automation systems.

BAE are a worldwide engineering company supplying the (I quote) development, delivery and support of advanced defence and security systems, in air and on land.
They consist of 3 operating groups that provide support and service solutions for defence, intelligence and civilian systems and the development, design and manufacture of a wide range of electronic systems and subsystems for both military and commercial applications; armoured combat vehicles, artillery systems and intelligent munitions.

Heard back from Brough this morning. I'm on their reserve list. Really frustrated as I couldn't have tried any harder, and it means searching for just 'bum' jobs now, feel like I've wasted my time waiting in hope now. Just hope someone doesn't need their offer and then I get asked

so has anyone heard anything yet? i got an email a couple of weeks ago saying that i'm still on the reserve list and that no places have opened up yet, they will contact me soon with a final outcome.

i'm guessing that with the exam results coming out in the next few weeks we'll hear somthing pretty soon.
I applied for a technical designer app at barrow and have my apptitude on 12th March- here's hoping!! I applied back in november though so has been a lengthy process!

"Lengthy process"

Dont get too excited. Just got an email notification so thought I'd reply. I applied last year in November and got through all the stuff. Have a scroll through replies and pay particular attention to the dates of posts, think I replied on here everytime something went abit further so you could have an idea of timing.

Basically I applied in November and didnt find out till June that I was on the reserve list. Month later I then got a phone call dont know if that was to offer me it but I told them I'd already got a decent paying job.

I think roughly going through the stages, after your aptitude test, expect 2months before you find out about interview. Think they told me about 3 to 4 weeks but it ended up being 2months so dont get too worked up if you dont hear anything in that time

Good luck with it all

Hello everyone i havebeen for my exam today and i'm leaving school this year and i was the only person of my age there so that was scary. It wasn't too bad though I think I hav done ok in it but we wil see when the results come. There were four parts to the test: Maths, mechanical, english and fault finding. The maths one is hard but it is all multiple choice so it makes it a bit easier. But the test isn't something you can revise for really. The Mechanical exam was easy i thought (not to sound big headed.) It consisted of pictures of levers and things and you had to say what would happen if the handle was mover this way and things like that. The english paper was a tricky one as you had to read a number of small passages and answer questions on them but you had a time limit so you have to be a quick reader. The final test was fault finding and you were given a booklet with all these different symbols in them and each question had a different combination of these symbols and you had to find out which symbol wasn't working.

Good luck everyone!

Let me know how you get on.
Has anyone applied for BAE systems at Rochester? I have applied for a technicle apprentice and have got my exam on Tuesday the 23rd of this month! Any one know what will be on the test? xx

I applied for a business apprenticeship at Warton in January, and then had my test mid February.. was really worried how it went, because I didn't finish the maths paper! They said then they'd get back to me in 2 weeks time.. but it took them 4, which really shook me up! Finally found out I've got an interview.. which is tomorrow :| ! I'm very nervous, but confident & just going to try & impress them with my project, which is very business based... but wondering whether they'll find it interesting?! Good luck everyone whos applied/in the process! Will keep you updated with details of what happens to me ! xx

I'll be applying for an industrial placement for 2011-2012... The application starts after this summer (2010).
Engineering with BAE would be my DREAM job, so this placement year would be a MASSIVE achievement for me.
The only hints I've been given so far is to apply AS SOON as it's possible to, as they don't wait for all the applications to get in before they start choosing people for interviews.

Anyone else here interested in Engineering placements?
