To Whom It May Concern,

Studying in the United Kingdom seems to me one of the best choices, considering the wide range of opportunities that the country provides. I have chosen to apply here not only for the work prospects and suitable environment, but also for the cultural opening and the level of knowledge involved.

Chemistry, the way I see it is a science based on curiosity and driven by devotion. Both these aspects were part of my life since I was very young. I am one hundred percent involved in everything that I do, nevertheless did I always want to know more about the things around me. I remember watching a cartoon at kindergarten and hearing the words 'Chemistry' and 'Biology'. I asked all my relatives about these words, which made me even more impatient about studying these subjects myself. It was not until the first Chemistry class that I was really caught in the subject. Extracurricular lab classes have also risen my interest, along with my teacher's dedication that inspired me even more in choosing a Science related career. I believe that my study background in a high school with tradition in Mathematics provided me with analytic and problem solving skills. Although Chemistry is my favorite subject, I could not imagine my life without the logical thinking imposed by Mathematics and Informatics. Biology also represents a secondary interest of mine, therefore I find the functioning of the human body very meticulous and impressing.

From all the parts of Chemistry, I find the practical work the most exciting. Lab classes are my favourites, every of the experiments being quite spectacular for me. Combined with the importance of theoretic aspects, they offer a world of possibilities and open a door for everyone interested in knowledge. I took part in all the Chemistry contests that occurred during my high school years, reaching the National Earth Science Olympiad which involved Chemistry, Physics, Biology and Geography. At home I like researching on certain substances and making my own perfumes and cosmetics. I have always been fascinated with the Cosmetic Industry and its uses, which seems to me of no less importance for self expression that paint an brushes are for artists. As a Chemist, one has to be connected with the world and society, to understand the needs of the people around. The communication skills that I have gained taking part in a Public Speaking Competition for 3 years, also volunteering for The Red Cross will help me for sure in my future career. In my spare time I love creative activities,I write poems and I dream about publishing a book one day.

Chemistry is one of the most versatile subjects, having an increasing number of applications. One of my biggest dreams is to become a perfumer, thing that will fully take advantage of my artistic, imaginative and creative skills. For me memories, colours, they all come out as fragrances and I could never give up the dream of expressing myself through them. Another viable choice is Pharmaceutical research, medicines being of great importance today. Forensics also should not be neglected, its interdisciplinary complexity making it an interesting branch of Chemistry.

I would be grateful to continue my studies at your University, the program I have chosen being of most help for my development and aspirations. I hope that we could have an enriching collaboration, both for me and your University.

Thank you very much for taking into consideration my application and I am looking forward to receiving your answer.

Yours faithfully, Roberta Nicoleta Ion
