I'm not going to make any value judgements, but it's clear that the Muslim population is growing much more rapidly than the general population, whether we think that's good, bad or are simply indifferent. The British Muslim population grew by approx. 74% in the last decade. The British population as a whole grew by around 5% during the same period. Do you see the idiocy in your comment now? :biggrin:

No, my point is there's nothing wrong with the Muslim population growing, respecting people's beliefs etc.

My mum works in a place called Surestart in Longsight and says that these whole minibuses turn up outside full of Asians or Romanians (like 8 kids etc.) and they just go "Benefits, benefits!". The majority can't talk english well so my mum has had to learn basic Urdu to understand them...

This is a true point, however I don't believe it has anything to do with religion, as a lot of these people are Hindi and Sikh. It's kind of grouping people really, many Muslims and other religions such as buddhists, Jews have people that are helping this country.

This country is not that socially liberal, and wouldn't be as socially liberal if it were up to our Christian churches to make the laws.

Why do people always assume Muslims want to inflict their values on us? I think our dear state church has inflicted more of it's values on me than other religions.

That isn't a comment about the level of population of a country being good or bad though. I don't think that a decreased population would be a good thing, we're nowhere near carrying capacity, we're using 3% of Earth's habitable land, and larger populations allow for greater specialisation, larger markets and thus us being more productive (producing more stuff with the same effort), and thus better off.

No, the comment is one about the incompatibility of the free movement of people (immigration) and robbing some to pay for others (the welfare state).

There's nothing immediately wrong with it growing, but the long term problems are that Muslims tend to hold very conservative views on social issues and in particular, homosexuality. The UK has become an incredibly tolerant country socially over the past decade, but an increase in Islamic beliefs will inevitably lead to more homophobia, and quite possibly more violence.

It wouldn't be so bad if British Muslims were more adjusted to our culture, like they are on the continent (German and French muslims were significantly more liberal on homosexuality, abortion and divorce when compared to British muslims), but the trouble is that they're not, and when the muslim population grows at such a high rate, that does pose a problem.

There's nothing wrong with having more muslims, but there is something wrong with the consequences it may have if they don't adjust to our culture.
