university isnt everything........
hey basically im on a gap year and i thought university would be the only place to get a better career as i dropped out of uni at the beginning and thought this was the end of my education, so tried on internet looking for projects to do on gap year and it is the best thing i have done. i first went full time in mcdonalds where i worked part time before which wasnt great but needed the monies, but now i finished my aprenticeship as a fitness instructor, going to africa to volunteer next month for 6 months for free, there is one company that did it finally without paying providing ur parents earn less then 25k and have a scholarship in australia to do watersport instructor so i get everything paid for and a education so cool plus i did try to get summer camp coach but got rejected in last part, so to all the people who are considering that uni is the be all and end all there are lots of projects for everyone and careers if u just look at other places aswell.

Errrmmm yep...nobody said that uni was everything/ the only path to sucess.
That said its not like there's a degree in how to be a watersports instructor and you'v emanaged to sneak into the profession without it.
Only a few professions actually require a degree...for most of them you just need to be intelligent, commited and organised
Anyway congrats on the watersports thing

haha true but im sick of ppl telling me uni is the only way to success, ppl on here complaining their life is over cos they not in uni and in my area all they ask me is when u going to uni what u gonna do and like give me same lectures of why uni is good it gets annoying.

It depends a lot on what you want to do, for many jobs you do not need a degree, but for many others you do. While some careers may not require you have a degree (accountancy for instance), having one is certainly going to give you the upper hand.

that is true for sure but i always wanted to go through a sport related environment so watersports instructor is something i want to do and if there are romotions within industry i could take it and be like a organiser also it is a good oppertunity to do it in australia so i had to take it my main aim career wise is to be fifa president but not sure how to get there. also have a fitness instructor qualification and coluld do that, although i knw to be a doctor or engineer u need a degree.

Not these days, well degrees are so common that having a degree now is pretty much the same as not having a degree like 10 years ago, it doesnt do much.

Of course these people have the upper hand when applying to Accounting.
Anyone who thinks that university is the only way for success for anyone (as opposed to just themselves, because obviously people who wan't to be doctors/lawyers do believe this) are pompous and need to take a look at the real world! Sir Phillip Green and Sir Alan Sugar didn't got to university, to site two examples just from the business world

Im 27, most people I knew who got degrees 10-12 years ago got great jobs out of their degree, wheras 5 years ago a few got them, to now pretty much none do that I know doing degrees.
I know someone who did business at a top London uni who currently works in a Subway in Cumbria!
