[QUOTE="Agdgdgwngo;30757921" George="George"]Okay I have a question for those attending Blood Sciences interviews next week. From the timetable, do the dates and times correspond to the particular specialism (2 columns to the right), or are the interviews for general 'Blood Sciences' (i.e. concerning the subjects which will be covered in the block rotations, regardless of which path you follow)?

I ask because on my letter it says "You will be interviewed as part of the Blood Sciences assessment centre on Tuesday 12th April 2011". Also, the posts I applied for are not only in Biochemistry; but also in Immunology and H&I.

Ahhhh confusion![/QUOTE

Hi

Immunology and haem is on monday and clinical biochem is tuesday!

Hope that helps
Good luck!

My interview's on the morning of Friday 15th.
Yea, the trains are expensive, no advance tickets left at such short notice ... I sort of wish I could drive down but I only passed my test in November so nowhere near confident enough yet  plus the fact that I don't actually have a car haha. When's your interview?
The drive will be hellish though, least you can get a wee read on the train. Aw I see, you going for Genetics? The prices were daft, cheapest I could find was about £110, and my mums car is a Toyota Aygo so it will be much cheaper to drive down for me.

Thanks  I've got a long journey too, from Scotland, but my interview's in the morning so I'm travelling down the night before!
I think I'll wear my skirt to be a little smarter ... my lack of suit jacket worries me a bit, but with paying for trains and a hotel I can't really afford one! Besides, I was meant to be prepping this weekend, not shopping

You'll be grand...it was too warm for a jacket anyway! I had to get up at 2am for a 6am flight from Dublin...I wasn't feeling entirely awake during the interview!
Hi all,

For those who applied for physiological sciences posts (cardio, vascular, respiratory, etc.), I received a call on my mobile this afternoon. Unfortunately, I was in lectures and only picked up the message afterwards. The guy told me to call him back and check my email over the next few days...He said he was calling from the Trainee Healthcare Scientist Training Programme. I guess I'll have to call him on Monday for the details...have I been shortlisted?

Oh, I applied for the vascular science posts in London, Portsmouth & Papworth

I got a call this morning inviting me to the Genetics assessment centre
And I'm fairly certain it must be Birmingham who've shortlisted me, because Leeds held that open day for shortlisted applicants and I wasn't one of them. I only applied to those two places ... So either my post is failing (very much a possibility!) or for some other reason I didn't get sent a letter.

Now, this interview process ... I'm terrified! I've never had an interview before except for a summer job years ago! (Didn't interview either for my degree or my current job.) The 'Clinical Scenario' part in particular is scary, I've just got no clue how to prepare for it, or what it might entail.

I don't know how to order my lab preferences either - I'd rather be in Leeds, but I know that they didn't shortlist me and Birmingham did. So that's made me think maybe I should put Birmingham first?

Crikey, sorry for the ramble, I'm just so so nervous (and excited too!) - looking at some of the applicants here, I'd honestly completely written off my chances of getting an interview. I've no idea how I managed it!

I was in the exact same position regarding interviews. I was last interviewed many years ago. I was young then so was not so bothered. But I really want this job so I was so nervous at interview.

I also Kind of did what you are thinking of doing for preferences but I don't honestly care where they post me. Whatever i get will be a wonderful opportunity. The Lady we spoke to after said we did not have to choose. That it wasn't a must. I wish i knew that before, I wouldn't have chosen. I would rather be in London though because I do a lot of volunteering here and have responsibilities. But If I got outside London, it will mean a new start. That is fine too I guess.

You didnt have to list your choices in order of preference?! Its annoying that they didnt tell us because that could have saved me valuable thinking time!
Hi guys, I'm a 2nd year Biochemistry student and am hoping to apply for this training programme that you guys are discussing, next year. I'm trying to find out as much as I can now so that I can make the most of every oppertunity.
I've read stuff online but its kinda confusing because theirs so much different information. So was wondering (i know this is a very basic question), but what exactly does a clinical biochemist do and how do they do it? So far all i've got is whats on the 'Association of Clinical Biochemistry' website:that they do complex analytical work and develope and implement new techniques. That gives you no specific information at all!

I'm guessing you guys probably know more and have maybe met clinical biochemists so know more about what they do?

I think what you should do is organise to meet a clinical biochemist
Is anyone revising academic stuff from uni for there interview? Am trying to make the most of the very little time I have, so am thinking its not worth it, as they won't be judgeing our academic knowledge but the skills we have right?

Hey

ive applied for audiology and cardiology - it says that the interview dates are the 18th and 21st - so im giving myself untill next thurs as a final cut off.... not that im particularly expecting to hear anything! but fingers crossed any way

Hmm guess we will have to wait and see. There doesn't seem to be many people getting replies from audiology yet so i guess that means no interview letters/phone calls have been made..so there is some hope for us yet..ah well fingers crossed for us both!!!
Anyone got any other useful info on interviews? (Other than what's already on here). Thanx.
Does anyone know if there's going to be a presentation?

I really hope not, and think its quite unfair to have one as it's just going to be the arrogant and cocky people that get higher marks.

I think that's a bit of a sweeping judgement, there's a different between arrogance and confidence, I for one always tend to do pretty well in presentation scenarios and don't think I'm either arrogant or cocky! If they did do that (although unlikely in a 10min slot) it would be to test your ability to relay information to others and how you cope under pressure, which are both good skills to have!

As for revision, I've gone over some of my undergraduate and postgrad academic work but only as a generalised background, been concentrating more on my lab skills and experience but I'm leaving it now, hoping they're judging you as a person more than your ability to recite a textbook!
Hey has anyone walked to the stadium from New street station? A silly question but, I just wondered how people had crossed the main roundabout Coventry road, as Google maps does not show any subways and its difficult to see whether there are any crossings?

heres the map:

hope someone can help

I applied for vascular and cardio posts in London and got a on Friday afternoon but wasn't able to take it, so they (someone from B'ham) left a message and said I should call them tomorrow & lookout for an email over next couple of days.

I don't know if anybody else who's applied for the physiological pathway (including audiology) has heard back, but like others have said, I suspect they'll be calling this week.

EDIT: I've been short-listed...wow. Am ecstatic! From what I've been told (by the powers that be), just to make the short list is an achievement in itself. Now just waiting for that email

They're not going to throw any surprise presentations at you. And besides, presentations aren't usually for marking candidates. They're just to help someone lose some nerves before the actual interview, and provide a handy hint on what sort of questions you'll be asked in the interview.
U know in Clinical Biochemistry, as part of the training your meant to rotate through 4 different specialisms and then persue 1 single specialism at the end. What are the 4 different specialisms?
