Surviving A Temp Job You HATE

That extra experience you're getting will probably be valuable to you in the future, so quit crying about it.

Currently on my gap year, start at UCL in september, my gap year job was alright at first now its HELL. I HATE IT.

My lawyer I'm assisting REALLY likes me for some odd reason, when I first started I did all that was in my job spec, MY JOB along with the other interns in our side of the office but NOW shes moved me to sit RIGHT NEXT TO HER and makes me do some of HER WORK! So instead of my usual 'easy' stuff that I and all the other interns did she's basically made me her 'glorified assistant' and makes me do SOOO MUCH. This is what she does to her 'favourites'

The thing is I dont wanttt to do extra work, just need to be here till June. IT SUCKS!! Now all the other interns HATE me cos I'm seen as a little pet and this woman is OVER STRESSING ME BIG TIME! Like she'll say infront of everyone 'and the lovely Porta will do this' 'Portia is AMAZING she can handle that' and im think NOOOO go away! grrrr

Now I just HATE my job, hate the actual job I'm doing all this HARD stuff im not even qualified to do, I hate my manager and this new 'glorified assistant role' she's made me do even though I'm meant to be delighted I'm not. None of the other interns like me anymore so I have no friends there and every day just SUCKS

You're lucky to have a job .

Just remember that the experience will be useful to you, the money will be handy and that you don't have to do this job for much longer anyway.

As interns they put us on 19k salaries so the extra 1 grand plus is better than working for nothing.

It's just getting sooo hard and all other interns just ignore me and give me the silent treatment, feel so annoyed, tired and isolated there everyday. I'm not tryna be bestfriends with anyone but it sucks to be that person people push out

I DO need the cash though, saving for uni spending money and summer *sighs*

I only worked 2 months in a factory, but it was 42-45 hours a week and I used up my whole summer holidays of year 11! I got through by the fact that I had no homework for when I got home, didnt't wear a watch (If you wear a watch you keep checking the time and it drags) and also keep socialising with friends etc The less isolated you feel, the more likely you will be to wake yourself up in the morning haha!

As others say, take it as experience.

I'm soon to be a graduate civil engineer, and during my placement year, the secretary in our section left. Me, being the most junior in the section took over her role. Not part of my job description, but I did the task nonetheless. Quite funny when discussing this with potential employers at the moment.

EDIT: I still did my engineering tasks (design, surveys, etc), but just merged her duties into my daily tasks.
