•Guests can only stay in your room/flat for 3 consecutive nights during any week, 3 times per term •Ask permission from the warden (permission will not be unreasonably withheld) and check with your fellow residents/flatmates •You are responsible for your guests whilst they are on site. This includes being responsible for (and paying for) any damage they may cause
In practice though, these rules aren't strictly followed (except for the third one). As long as your flatmates are OK with it, then you should be fine.
acom office.. you said James Baillie is oversubscribed already this year, if en suite and close to campus are my priorities.. is Leodis a likely back up? Or would Tannery be more likely?

Thanks
Probably Leodis unless they needed more people in the tannery
It wasn't on 13 May but applications don't close until July 1 so there's still loads of people who haven't applied yet. The most applications as at 13 May were for James Baillie Park and Charles Morris Hall, about neck and neck.

i dont know really, Leodis doesn't really appeal to me, but whats your opinion on it?
yer me neither, but i almost considered it over the tannery at some point but only cos i spoke to this really cute girl in the common room haha. Have you been to the tannery?

I havn't seen Tannery no, ive only seen James Baillie and Henrey Pirce (and some catered halls which i 100% dont want). I may as well put James Baillie down and then settle with whatever they give me if i dont get in. Leodis im sure would be ok... are you dead certain on tannery then?

Oh, i didn't see henry price or tannery, pretty set on it and there's quite a few people (20-30) on yougo going
i've applied to devonshire without seeing it or really knowing that much about it other than it's catered and looks quite nice haha does anymore know anything more that they could fill me in on about it?? thaaaanks
There's over 100 people in each - you're probably not even going to know everyone's name by the end of the year. I bet there were only about 30 in your class at school and you made friends there so with 4 times that amount - no worries And if a hall off campus is an annoyance then over 80% of Leeds students must be very annoyed - living on the campus is the exception at Leeds, not the norm. It's so easy getting around (even if you're at Bodington) and an awful lot of your "going out" socialising (as opposed to doing stuff at the halls) will be in the city centre or in Headingley rather than on the campus.
Thank you so much! Really nice of you to answer all our questions! Nice staff is one more reason I'm glad I could be going to Leeds
I've got a few more practical questions, if you don't mind
If I were self catered, would I still be able to eat at the refectory at the same prices as the people who are on catered accommodation?
I've read a bus pass is £110 a term/semester is this still correct? There are two semesters at uni, right? Does that mean I should basically just add £220 to my overall bill for Bodington or any of the halls in Headlingley?
Also, would £30-40 expenditure a week for food be a good estimate for a normal person on tight budget in Leeds?
I've read that some halls are in corridors, not flats, which can make it harder to make friends as it isolates people a bit more.. Do Lyddon, Ellerslie or Henry Price have any corridors or is mostly organised in flats?

ahhh law thats so cool you're gonna be minted when you're older then hahah but yeah languages are my strong point i think, I tried chemistry for AS and didnt get above a U, so being a scientist is out of the question but yeah i loooove Japanese
Hahaha I hope so! I'm not even thinking about anything post university until results day That's pretty awesome. I'm trilingual because of my upbringing but I did French at GCSE and I was awful! What other languages do you know? Ah I was bad at sciences too. That or I just didn't put the effort in so I didn't like it. If I ever see you at Clarence Dock, be sure to teach me some

The catered students get a bit of a subsidy but it's not absolutely enormous (I think they get £9 worth on their card but only pay £8something in their rent). Have a look at the Refresh Card http://www.leeds.ac.uk/catering/ecash.htm

That amount is per term and there are 3 terms so it's a bit more than that. However, I think the £110 is the first term amount, the second term is lower and by the look of this, http://www.firstgroup.com/ukbus/leeds/tickets/student_bus_travel/ the 3rd term is only £75. That's for the bus that goes up to Bodington and Oxley; if you're only going as far as Lupton (or Grayson Heights), it's less (£58 this term, compared with the £75)
Also, would £30-40 expenditure a week for food be a good estimate for a normal person on tight budget in Leeds?
That really depends how good a cook you are and how much time you're prepared to spend shopping and preparing food. I think you could live on less than that but it would involve preparing food from scratch rather than buying stuff ready prepared and would probably involve using the markets rather than just going to the local supermarket for your veg.
I've read that some halls are in corridors, not flats, which can make it harder to make friends as it isolates people a bit more.. Do Lyddon, Ellerslie or Henry Price have any corridors or is mostly organised in flats?
Some people argue that it's easier on a corridor because there are more people to get to know. Henry Price is flats of 8 or 9, Lyddon has corridors of between 9 and 12 so it's not that different. But usually, you can't get into another flat unless someone lets you in, whereas in Lyddon, you can go to other corridors. To be honest, I'm not sure the actual layout makes that much difference - there are sociable flats and unsociable flats; sociable corridors and unsociable corridors. Although it's nice to be friends with the people you live with, most students make their long-lasting closest friends either from their course mates or from people you meet in societies/sports teams etc.
