A student oyster card can only get a discount on weekly or monthly travelcards (I'm not sure, but probably longer travelcards as well)

If you're not going to be using that much transport every single day, maybe (if you have a young person's railcard) invest in a normal oyster card, register it and link your railcard to the registered oyster (you can't do this on a student one!) by asking one of the people at the counters who sell tickets This way your oyster caps at a 30% lower price on a daily basis opposed to having to buy a travelcard that you may or may not use
