I am trying to upload my answers to the other time zone paper. I keep getting a 503 error though

what is with this rep thing? 15000 views, 19 positives  but 4 negatives :s-smilie:

i think it would be best to upload a link, or just post it and in your 1st post state the post no. for where you posted it [ too much posts]

The question was about the results of males and females in a STATISTICS TEST, seriously, was that really necessary? I read the question and felt irritated because it would take all of 5 seconds to come up with a different concept with the same data. I am sick of being told I am being overly sensitive, males have the great privilege to say that and shrug it off as sensitivity. It's not like they did slightly worse, they did 20 marks on average worse (practically half the score) which begs the question, why?! Anyway. It isn't a 'big deal' but reflects the insidious nature in which we deal with the 'differences' between men and women.

To make the differences a whole lot more clear so that students can answer the question

here's why - females did significantly worse

That's not what the exam statistics say. Here are the results for last summer's Edexcel Maths A level. These are cumulative number of candidates and cumulative percentages:

A* A B C D E
M 4074 10189 15252 18748 21109 22433
% 17.6 44.1 66.1 81.2 91.4 97.2
F 2836 7351 10997 13425 14978 15820
% 17.6 45.5 68.1 83.1 92.7 98.0

For Further Maths, they're more different:

M 1279 2435 3267 3688 3946 4051
% 31.0 59.0 79.1 89.3 95.6 98.1
F 658 1246 1643 1840 1919 1966
% 33.0 62.5 82.4 92.3 96.3 98.6
Is it true that this exam doesn't count towards an A*? I've been told only C3 and C4 do.

That's right, you need a total of 180 or more on C3 and C4 and an overall total of at least 480.

Arsey, for C2 do we need to know change of base (logs)? In your June 2011 C2 thread you say it's not needed as they don't ask questions regarding change of base?

well it is on the spec, so they could ask it. They never have though. The formula is in the formulae book.

I was also surprised that after going through a lot of C2 papers they only asked the division/multiplication law into a quadratic to then solve, do you personally expect a harder C2 paper this time? the past few have being fairly easy

well all of the harder papers have been going to the non-UK candidates, so who knows...

it wouldn't surprise me if C2 is a hard one.

Do you have to know the proof of the trig identities like tanθ =sinθ/cosθ

dw its just radical feminism
Original post by Fas
here's why - females did significantly worse because they spent their lives getting pissed off about tiny little things which mean absolutely nothing in real life ( such as the context behind a statistics exam ) instead of working towards their other exams.

Wait , that's just you. kindly chill DOWN about the issue , if your so bothered go and raise the point with a higher authority and film it - i wanna see how badly they flame you for it.

Feminazi's honestly.

Just please read back what you wrote. Why are you being so harsh?

I am not pissed off, in reality it seems like you are pissed off by me and my opinion. I have done a lot of work for my exams and I spent all of 20 seconds tapping out my views on the suitability of that question.

i'm just annoyed that people are making such a small thing into a big deal is all - that question was most likely written by a woman anyway ( and thats what Arsey said , so if there's any issue with what i said take it up with him lol )

Thanks a lot for uploading! I've been worrying sick since after my S1 paper last Friday. =( Took the international paper and regretted much for didn't do enough exercises >.< I'm scared of making tons of careless mistakes! Hope it didn't affect much! Anyways, thank you!!
Reply 738
Owh, may I ask will the grading system be different between the UK paper and the international one??

I kinda make a lot of careless mistakes... T.T

Hi Arsey, Isn't the median found by doing 1/2 X N which is 35 and you take the 35.5th value? That would make your interpolation different because you used 35 and not 35.5. Cheers
