Thanks. God bless you! :h:

I don't have a problem with transgenderism but I'm a filthy liberal :teehee:

That's cool - I'm a Socialist which I dare say is even more filthy! Let's just say my religion and my politics don't always mix too well.

Yes, is this only in Westminster or around the country? Thought it was standard??

Not so far as I know, Our current PP has been with us for 13 years. The previous one was with us for 11 years and the one before 10 years (The last two died in office though).

That said, it may be just unique in our diocese.
My first parish priest was there for a good 20+ years or so. That was in the Southwark diocese

I'm not certain it's the case in our parish, but then again, ours seems to be turning into a home for old priests...
Parish priest has been there more than 10 years though (in Westminster).

So yesterday I went to visit the museum in the town I'm staying in. When I left, I spotted a pretty looking church to my right, and started heading towards it to have a look. Before I got there though, I got distracted by spotting the Catholic Church, which had a sign on the door saying that there was adoration at 12. The time at that moment? 11.57 :ahee:

Now today I'm heading off to try and find a (CofE) church that my ancestors used to go to, and spend my day looking at gravestones. *I'm so cool*
Hey, I'm a catholic, and after 4 years of waiting I'm finally getting confirmed at the end of this year!

Same here. It's actually not that unusual, which is strange considering the Catholic Church throughout history has often stood up for incumbent governments and institutions (thereby not being very radical).

Nevertheless, you get some. James Larkin, Irish Trade Union agitator, was Catholic I think http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Larkin . Also, you have strands of Catholicism that are quite socialist, like Liberation Theology.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liberation_theology . Finally, Jesus himself did say some anti rich things (e.g 'eye of a needle' etc.).

But you're right, most Catholics are innately conservative :P.

I'm sorta agnostic personally, but I was brought up a Catholic (I'm Irish) and I find it difficult to separate myself from the traditions (e.g I always, inexplicably, cross myself before exams and I would want a Catholic funeral if I died tomorrow).

Everyone's priests are leaving! We have vacancies for a Bishop and a priest at the moment. Why don't they make more priests into bishops (within reason)?

I've come to the conclusion that since I can't deal with male genitalia and due to past experiences, I am most probably a lesbian :colondollar: This does NOT mean I am necessarily going to act on any feelings I have, so let's keep things nice and friendly. The Catechism and the Church have no issue with chaste LGBT people and at the moment I plan on remaining celibate.

If anyone has a problem with me suddenly... well I'm not going anywhere, so sucks to be you :p:

Wouldn't you have to be attracted to women to be a lesbian?

I looked this up and having thought I'd seen something positive about something like socialism on wikipedia, I saw this instead:

In Roman Catholicism, Socialism was strongly criticized in the 1878 papal encyclical Quod Apostolici Muneris by Pope Leo XIII. It was again denounced in the 1931 letter Quadragesimo Anno. Socialists were accused of attempting to overthrow all existing civil society, and Christian socialism was deemed to be an oxymoron because of this. Pius XI famously wrote at the time that "no one can be at the same time a good Catholic and a true socialist".[18]
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christian_socialism#Catholic_criticisms

But I'm sure you can find a compromise:smile:

That's so :awesome::awesome: I'm thinking of using my giftcard to go to wimbledon so I may have to take a detour and finally visit Westminster cathedral.

Hi! Mine was Alena and I'm ashamed to say that I looked first for a nice sounding name and second for someone that really related to me.:colondollar:

It's nice that you didn't exactly say "I was conditioned that way, society made me do it"
I've never actually been to a catholic funeral or a wedding etc. it's strange because I want to meet catholics at university and as opposed to going away to escape it.

I did the same thing with Rose :colondollar:

If I could go back again I think if chose a different name. Possibly Margaret after Clitherow, or Cuthbert... Girls can have boys names for confirmation... Right?

I've just been to St David's cathedral. Little disappointed tbh, there's nowhere to just sit and pray. I'm used to cathedrals with space for prayer, but there were people taking photos everywhere!

Yeah, there's that too :p:  :o: It's a bit complex with me but sexually speaking, I am more attracted to women (at the moment at least!) than men

I am indeed! Well remembered :musicus: That's why I chose St Cecilia. Though in retrospect I wish I'd chosen St Joan of Arc or St Teresa of Avila :colondollar:

Yeah, it's obviously partly societal conditioning. But there is also a conscious element to not abandoning the faith I think -I was an atheist when I was 16, but couldn't keep it up.
I'm sure you'll meet a fair few, especially based on this thread

You're in Leeds aren't you if I remember rightly.

Hallam's due a new Bishop soon. Our current Bishop will be 77 in November. That said he's the youngest 76 year old I think most people in our diocese know.

Its funny because our current Bishop is our shortest serving Bishop - but if he remains in post on 13th August he will be our longest serving Bishop (in a two horse race)

There's a shortage of priests in my area too, we've had to cut down on mass times!
