In terms of skill-sets, Olivier Giroud is actually significantly more talented. So you have Costa, a striker who worked in an AM system last year, who cant fall back on his inherent technical skill, pace, power etc if the new system is not to his liking. Those kind of strikers are very risky signings. Watching him flounder around the Spanish team, you'd have to wonder what exactly he brings for £35m.
Need to check out his chance conversion rates, Ariel duels won, etc and be quite astonished as well. And then it's Chelsea of course. Very few strikers make it there.

In terms of CM, it's possible to play without an out and out DM and many top CL teams do these days. It's more about having a positionally disciplined and high energy CM than having a specialist DM as such. Which is why I honestly think Flamini would do a job for us and would be the best partner for Ramsey as things stand.
Ironically, we defend much easier with Walcott (now Sanchez) in the team because they simply force the opponent back into their half. It was quite straightforward to hammer Arsenal last season using pace owing to our complete lack of it. That will improve DM or no.

Lul. Not really- Costa is a player who I've actually watched and analysed a lot and he is actually a good player technically but he looks clumsy and like be uses brute force, which he does to an extent but he's played AM in his career before so he has technical ability.

IIRC isn't his conversion rate pretty good? Only Ronaldo and Messi got more La Liga goals than him last season and considering he was injured for a fair bit that's not to be sniffed at. Add in the fact that he got 36 goals in all comps and 20 the season before playing on the wing as second fiddle to Falcao shows that he's obviously a good player.
Agree with the Chelsea point though, it's a mystery why tbh.

Agree but think you guys need it because your a small team with small, agile but weak technically gifted players (brb beta phaggots crew)

Agree but that doesn't work against the top teams. They won't back off and drop deep (bar Chelsea ) and when there's people like Feenandinho and Toure in a midfield they need to he disrupted with fire (see Matic at the Etihad). So whilst I think you can challenge without a DM, for these reasons don't think you can win it.

It's a shame what has happened with Gundogan, I really like him as a player. World class 12/13 season for sure, the guy gave Madrid the run around at signal iduna park.
You know if Gundogan was fit I doubt we'd of seen or heard much of Khedira this cup anyway
I think one more season, if you get a DM, a striker and an RB then you'll be fine.
I think the lack of a world class striker will end up in you guys being sold short in a title race, like it did with Chelsea last season. But you have the ingredients for everything else to work out.
Think we have the right set up so that we don't pay as much for not having that world class striker. I guess it wasn't the best last season since essentially we had 2 playmakers, no Walcott and having to rely on Podolski but I think our striker issue won't hurt as much next season. That's on the basis that we still sign adequate cover for Giroud which is why people keep pushing on for Remy

It's interesting though.
Giroud and Remy, both french, get a good goal tally, you use Giroud for games you need a target man and to link up with the AMs, you use Remy for games you need pace up front and are playing a game on the counter attack(e.g. vs Barcelona).
I hate to say it, but your team has a ridiculous amount of balance all across the pitch. Right amount of creativity to work rate. Definitely in the title race, but you'll still fall short due to the lack of a goalscoring striker.
Loooool are you forgetting how they ripped you apart at the Etihad. Arsenal are deluded if they think they can win the title without a DM and a new ST tbh. All you've done is enhanced your flat-track bully status so far, you need to add a clinical beast to spearhead the attack (like Costa) and a midfield enforcer (like Matic). Until you get those 2 players you ain't finishing above 4th if that.
I never said we'd win the league.... I just stated how excited I am for next season . We will get a DM I'm confident. I wouldn't exactly call Diego Costa a clinical beast, yeah he scored a lot. But are we forgetting last season was the second time in whole career where he has scored over 10 goals. That's what people have been saying since 2010 and we still finish 4th .
I think the 2nd worst thing about playing for Liverpool, after having to live in that hole of a city, would be having to be indoctrinated into the quasi-religious LFC cult by nutjobs like Phil Thompson.

Yes this is true. The double-pivot has become more offensive. Its possible to play with two box to box midfielders if they share defensive responsibilities. Khedira's main strengths are his positional awareness and ability to exploit space when players move out of position. I don't think Wenger would use him as a holding midfielder because his talent would be wasted in that role but I still think we would have adequate protection for the back four if we bought him.
Either way I would be happy to spunk £20M on Khedira simply because its another bargain. A few shareholders on twitter who I trust claim that we're going to be in for a £20-30M German so I'm optimistic about this, especially if Kroos heads to Madrid.
