It's a funny one really; why should clothing be categorised as 'revealing' or inappropriate simply because it shows skin? I was playing football the other day with a few friends and their kids. Several of us, including a 7/8 year old, had our shirts off. Ooh, the horror. Of course, nobody gave a **** because it's normal. And several of the women had very short shorts, including a youngish girl. Oh no! Or, "that's appropriate clothing for a warm day".
It's appropriate clothing for a warm day.
I don't know why, simply because of moral hysteria, paedo-panics and buzzwords like 'sexualisation', children (or anyone else) should be looked down upon for dressing how they want. If I could wear a short skirt and a crop top to work, I would. I'd horrify the rest of the office but I'm not trying to be sexy, I just want a cooling breeze on my beer gut.
I'd have an issue with Ann Summers doing kids ranges. I don't like the idea of t shirts with 'sexy' on them in the kids section of Tesco. And anyway, I'm sure if you took the short skirts out of the kids section, they'd be buying size 4/6 from the adult section anyway. Like they've been doing since the 1960s. It really isn't much of a deal, the only people whinging about sluts and sexualisation are probably seeing problems that aren't really there. Even those who do it to dress 'attractively' are engaging in a far more innocent and normal behaviour than you're allowing for, it's been a quite normal stage of growing up for many years.
